Baxter manufacture kifesaving kidney dialysis products

PRODUCTION has returned to normal at Baxter Healthcare, Castlebar, Mayo’s largest employer.

This follows the resolution of a major contamination problem at the factory which manufactures lifesaving kidney dialysis products.

Last January, amid fears for the futures of the workforce, a germ contaminated production line was shut down completely.

This led to 150 workers being laid off for four months.

Now, following detailed inspections by the Irish Medicines Board and what is believed to be intensive and costly remedial work, the contaminated line has been reopened.

It will be resuming full production following the re-opening of the plant today (Tuesday) after the summer holidays.

The Mayor of Castlebar, Councillor Eugene McCormack has welcomed the fact the plant is operating at its full potential again.

“There were fears that the contaminated production line might never re-open,” Councillor McCormack stated.

“In these hard economic times, we all can do without any uncertainty. The uncertainty in the case of Baxter has now been removed.”

The contaminated which halted a key production line at the Castlebar plant was detected in dialysis products.

Workers on the contaminated line accepted a compensation deal for the time they were unemployed.

I am so glad you have informed me of this. In the UK it has been a nightmare since last Nov. We have had to have fluid from the USA, TURKEY, SPAIN, CANADA ,the connections are different they are compatible, but different. The box sizes are all over the place. Some have two bags in, some have 6 bags in it has been a pain. It is quite funny that you are in America and know about this, we are yet to be informed here. I am glad all the people are back at work, it must have cost Baxter's a fortune. Thanks Okarol
