Title: Airlines and dialysis machines.
Post by: CHeatherS on August 12, 2011, 03:59:12 PM
Well folks, I am glad to say I have waded through this, and can give you a heads up.   I have a giant Samsonite suite case that came with my Liberty dialysis machine.  I thought it would be a good idea to call ahead of time.... and sure enough. I would NOT have been able to get on my flight next week with that machine, unless I checked it as luggage, which I would not want to do.  So they changed flights for an airplane that it would fit in, whew.  I was really sweating it there.  Near tears..... and finally the supervisor figured it out.

Wish me luck, off to get a new kidney on the 17th, surgery on the 23rd.  Blessings all!!!

Heather

My mother did that when I was on the Home Choice.  She took the case to the airport and had it measured to make sure that it would fit under the seat.  All seemed fine, until we got there for the flight.  The guy behind the ticket counter wouldn't let us take it on the plane, saying that it was too big.  We had no choice but to check it.  We made it to our destination ok, but on the way home, they turned the case upside down and put something heavy on top of it, breaking a pill bottle, a shampoo bottle, the extendable handle on the case, and the door on the machine.  They repaired the case, but wouldn't touch the machine.  If I had've owned the machine, instead of it being property of the province, I would have been screwed
