Hi my name is Cinnamon and I live in Georgia. My wonderful father has been a dialysis patient for the past 18 months (ESRD) and my mother is his very, very loving caregiver. I'm interested in learning what I can so that I can support both of them. I have told my mother about this site, but she is not the most technologically proficient so I don't know if she will join or not yet.
It's been a tough year and half. My father suffers from multiple diseases along side ESRD. He is a cancer survivor, diabetic, and has multiple heart problems. I'm sure that some of you may know how stressful that all can be.
I'm here with open ears/eyes looking for all the info I can get.

Where is Georgia, is it central America?

Where is Georgia, is it central America?
It is due north of Florida; it borders the Atlantic.
Cinnamon, this is a good place for info and support. There are many good websites that have a lot of information about dialysis. Is you father doing dialysis at home or in a clinic?

Hi yes, sorry Georgia, USA. We just moved here (my husband is military). We used to live an hour away from my parents in AZ. He is doing in-center dialysis. I know that he talked about in-home for a while but I don't really know the feasibility of that.
Some days he's great, full of energy and ready to just about anything and other days, it seems like he's on death's door.
Of course he's been saying things like "this is our last chance" to do this or that together for the past 6-7 years now.

Welcome to our community, Cinnamon! So glad that concern for a loved one brought you here! This is just the best place for information, support and encouragement. I do hope your mom will be able to visit us some times. There is an excellent section for caregivers. I hope you will consider IHD your new family :grouphug;
Keep reading and keep posting. Let us know how your dad is doing.

Welcome, Cinnamion! What a loving child you are! To want to help them out of your love, is such an awesome way to show Honor & Respect towards your parents! God Bless you for it. People here will be able to help you alot! I am caregiver to my husband also! Yes this is very stressful at times, but it can also be a very good time to spend quality time with your father. He is right, he does not know how much longer he will be here, but none of us know when our time is up, right?
I guess with other issues going on with his health, he is not eligible for transplant? My husband is not eligible for one and there are others on this site who are not eligible either.
I would have my mother look into PD or Home Hemo! Not that In-Centers are necessarily bad, it is just to do it at home you can feel free to do whatever without rules as to what time & day to be somewhere. It will take commitment and at first will be hard to learn, but if I can do it, anyone can!
I hope that you can help them as much as possible, cause believe me, it is not easy for either of them! You come to this site as often as you like! We are here for you!
God Bless and keep us in the know about your parents! :flower;
