I am feeling more and more like dialysis is taking over my life. We were planning a trip to Yellowstone Park next summer. I can not find a center anywhere close, all are 100 miles plus away. We already cancelled a trip to Breckenridge Co due to the closest center was 3 hours away. I can't due PD do to medical issues and found out I probably won't qualify for home hemo due to all the Medicare changes. Any suggestions?

Wow, that's a long way to go. Can you stay in a town where there's dialysis but visit the park during the day?
I hope others can come up with a suggestion.
Closest is Big Horn!
This is what comes up when I searched

Bozeman Deaconess Hospital (In Bozeman, MT) has a dialysis unit. I don't know how many chairs. It is a 90 mile gorgeous drive from West Yellowtone MT. If elevation is an issue, West Yellowtone is at 6667 feet (I used to live there).

okarol, that is what I found too. It was a small family renuion type thing and we have an opportunity to stay in a time share or help with a vacation home. It would be cheaper that way then staying farther away. We have a lot of thinking to do before next summer.

We have traveled to Guatemala where the only place to dialyze was Guatemala City. I altered my schedule to Mon Thurs, Fri with my neph's approval. After dialysis we headed out. I slept, my sister drove usually 4 hours out. The next day we would enjoy whatever our destination had to offer, spend a second night and enjoy the early part of the day then hit the road and head back to Guatemala City and dialysis... and then off again!
Maybe you can alter your schedule. 90 miles really isn't all that bad for just a little while (I do hope you have a driver!) Please go and enjoy yourself at Yellowstone.
Dialysis does alter things. We consider it a divide by two factor when we travel - what we used to do in a week now takes two weeks. But that will not stop us from traveling.

I am one of the lucky ones who actually live in the beautiful state of Montana. Just thought I would let you know...The cody WY center is small, and will need advance notice to get in (we just had a patient transfer there after waiting nearly 3 months for a chair to open). I do hemo at the DCI clinic in Billings -a really wonderful facility-and we do accept travelers. There are 19 chairs in the unit, and they run three sessions (morning, afternoon, and evening). The travel time is a bit, but most of it is on interstate, and it is breath-taking scenery everywhere you look. Our facility is clean, have a great staff, and they go out of their way to make you comfortable. Of course, I may be prejudice... ;D Just thought I wud share this info...
