Title: News Flash: Sending large amounts of cash to a war zone may not be a good idea.
Post by: jbeany on June 24, 2011, 04:17:48 PM
I choked while reading a column today.  (Gotta quit reading political op-eds while I'm eating.)  And I quote, "After a thorough two-year review of US aid efforts in Afghanistan, the staff of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee emphasized, "The unintended consequences of pumping large amounts of money into a war zone cannot be underestimated."

Really?  Can we do a little Robert Fulghum here?  If we tried to learn something in kindergarten...
Take an ineffective kindergarten teacher and two large angry classes of kindergartners who have been fighting all school year.  Drop them off in an enclosed space, say at a giant Chucky Cheese, and dump a huge heap of cash on the ground.  Tell everyone to play nice.  See how well that works for ya....  ::)

My best friend just got back from a year in Afghanistan.  He was in charge of all the interpreters, 8,400 of them all over the country.   The U.S. spent $1 Billion on them.  He says America built 350 schools, but there are no teachers.  America built them hospitals, but there are no doctors.  The locals just scavenge the copper, etc.  The war is a big waste of money.
