Sun, 05 Jun 2011:

Kuala Lumpur, June 5 (ANI): A 48-year old Malaysian woman has claimed that she was forced to have sex with a cab driver in return for driving her ill husband to a haemodialysis centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The woman whose ordeal lasted for nearly three years said that she was introduced to the driver in 2009 a neighbour.

The driver who disappeared last month ferried her husband suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems to the centre three times a week.

"I paid him the first few times but he refused to accept the money," the Star Online quoted her as saying.

"I thought I had met a Good Samaritan but later I realised what he was really after," she added.

The woman later lodged a police report for rape, saying that the driver forced himself on her on several occasions inside the taxi.

She revealed that the driver would park the car in secluded areas while her husband was undergoing dialysis and would take advantage of the woman's situation. He even had sex with her in her home.

The husband said though he sensed "something amiss", he decided to keep quiet as he still needed the man's assistance. (ANI)

Rape is about power, it isn't just sex.

Here is a woman who was desperate and powerless.  A sick husband, and no way to get him to treatments.  Also, this is a totally different culture.  How far would you go to get someone you love treatment?  Would you do something that you didn't want to do because the outcome would keep someone you love alive?

What is rape?  Is it sex without pleasure, or is it sex that makes you feel shamed, used, powerless and humiliated?

Look at the abuse that goes on right here, the Duggard case for one.  A girl was abducted by taser and serially raped and held hostage for years.  Her childhood was lost.  She had two children.  Was she raped if she had a roof over her head, and loved her children?

A wife who is forced to trade sexual favors for trips to the dialysis unit had been raped, period. She was unable to take charge of the situation and say "NO".  For whatever reason, this went on until she finally was able to say NO.  And she said "NO", and the taxi driver has disappeared.  End of story.

A woman was hurt because someone took advantage of a situation and caused pain.  That is rape.

Just as a FYI, in sexual abuse cases, there is force, and brutality, and there is another recognized pathology, "Grooming".  Girls are taught that it is their place to "serve" in a sexual capacity.  This is rape too.  Imagine the guilt and conflict that these people go through when they finally realize that the people who were grooming them for "love" were simply abusing them.

You need to look at the people and the situation, and understand that if a woman in Kuala Lumpur (which is culturally conservative - to say the least) had the strength to finally go to the police, she should be applauded for stepping up, throwing back the veil of shame, and taking a stand.

I, ummmm.....oh, hell, tyefly, seriously?  1 out of 3 women in America have been forced into some sexual activity they didn't want to participate in, if not outright raped.  Our police actually investigate claims and we still don't report it most of the time.

We're talking about India here - where it's perfectly normal to marry off little girls between the ages of 5 and 12 to middle aged men and have them "consummate" the marriage that night.  Read this month's Nat'l Geographic, I beg of you, please.  Women are property there, not human beings.
