So, I've been on "The List" for four years now.... it's been a long time since I waited by the phone for "that call". Never thought it would come - but this morning, I stepped out of the shower to hear my phone ring. It was My Transplant Center - they'd been calling me for a while (I was showering) my name had come up, I was a "backup" for a kidney that had come in, and they needed current blood to cross match. I rushed down to the hospital, they drew blood and I went home..... now I'm waiting to find out if I get the kidney.
It's like waiting on pins and needles.... she said they'd know if I didn't crossmatch in 4-6 hours. I got tested at 8:30... it's 6:30 now.... so, I'm guessing that I just have to wait and see if I get it.... wow.
It's surreal.

That crossmatch wait is the hardest. But Steve, even if this one doesn't go to you, you now know that you are getting close!
:2thumbsup;
Rooting for you!

:thumbup; Good luck!
Jenna had two back-up calls when we changed her primary wait time from Los Angeles to San Diego.
Each time the first person got the kidney, but it felt good knowing she was on the radar!
It makes me humble to think of the family who lost a loved one today, I say a prayer for them and the donor.
:pray;

Wow, now I am on pins and needles for you!
-
prayers for all......... and wondering whats up........

Good luck Steve-O. If you don't get this one you'll get one soon...

hope you got good news!!! :bestwishes;

Fingers crossed, Steve-O!

Oh man, there's no update on his blog or twitter! Could this really be happening?
I am off to bed - hoping tomorrow brings good news. :2thumbsup;
-
Another example that underlines what they say - it can happen when you least expect it - like when I got my call I was *certain* it would be a mate wanting to talk to me about the cricket but nooo.. it was the registrar with the rather blunt "We've got a kidney for you" :) I hope Steve isn't just a backup and it is the real deal for him. My fingers are crossed!!
:2thumbsup;
-
Fingers, toes, eyes and everything else crossed for you, Steve!...
Darth...

I'm assuming that lack of an update can only be Good News!?

adding to the good wishes and prayers for Steve and the Donor

Hey guys!
Thanks for all the well wishes.... the kidney didn't end up going to me. I got called this morning - but they said my blood test was non-reactive, which is good... or something. I should have paid more attention to the details.
It's nice to know I'm on the radar, though - and I appreciate all the support here.

Being "on the radar" is such a positive thing, so that's outstanding!!! I know you must be very disappointed that you didn't get the kidney; it's like a kick in the stomach. Nothing about this is easy...
Let us know when the next call comes! :cuddle;

Steve-o,
So sorry this one didn't work out for you. But like the others said, when they start calling, you know you're getting closer. Hang in there. The RIGHT one is right around the corner!! :thumbup;
Sept '09 I had a call , I was told it's a long shot, but you're back up.
Jan '10 high risk call came thru. I turned it down.
Jun '10 another high risk call. I turned it down.
Nov 2, 2010 another high risk came. I turned it down as well.
The calls were getting closer and closer, I had a gut feeling that I would have another call either on Nov 6 or 8.
THE CALL came on Nov 8, 2010 at 10:30pm
I was rolled to the OR around 10:45 the next morning.

Sorry it didn't work out for you this time, but keep your overnight bag packed, Steve-O!!! :2thumbsup; Glad you're on the radar! Let us know. :beer1;

You know, the morning I was in the Transplant Center waiting to get my blood drawn, there was a little girl in the waiting room, too. No more than 8 or 9. Real chubby, blonde little thing - she was laughing and smiling with her mom, and playing with a Curious George doll. She was waiting on a kidney too.... I think they came in from out of town, too. I overheard that she's had something like 30 surgeries..... and that she and her mom were hopeful that this kidney was for her.
At that moment, I really wanted the kidney - but my first thought was "I hope she gets it."
I know how much I suffer on dialysis, but I'm older - yet still young, and tough. I can rough it on for a while.... I at least had a childhood not on dialysis. This poor girl is on dialysis.... I hope the kidney went to her. I've got a feeling it did, and I hope it goes well.
Sigh. I really wish everyone who wanted a kidney could get one. I make sure to push the "donate life" angle to people I know...
Anyway, my wait continues. I'll keep y'all posted.

Awww, I'm so sorry that it didn't happen. On the plus side though, wouldn't it be wonderful if the little girl DID get the kidney! (Ack, it's wonderful whoever gets it, really.)
Your turn will come.
;D

Awwwww, blessings, you sure do seem to have a good heart..... even if the kidneys are bonkers. Blessings to you!

Hey guys.... quick update... I'll write more later for ya.... but
Last Friday - I got the call.
I got a kidney. I was admitted to the hospital, and at 3:30 AM, I had a successful kidney transplant.
It's doing great. I'm home now. My creatinine this morning was 1.0.... it's crazy.
