I found out today that my kidney will be sent to Yale as part of a paired exchange program. I am thinking of making a t shirt.

Above is a good link on the program we used to find my husband's kidney. I was a bad match for him. My donation was able to be delayed due to the chain being complete.
The matches are based on a formula similar to the cadaver list. You get points for length of time on the run, the antigens matched, a double HLA DR match and PRA. I believe points are allocated if the donors are around the same age as well.
I will also know the demographics of my donor, but want to wait to closer to the surgery so that I do not get attached.

Well, once a kidney bitty wife, always a kidney bitty wife. I got to micromanaged Yale yesterday. They did not send a seven day crossmatch to be completed. I called my coordinator, figured the specific number of tubes, called my bffs at our local lab and wrote out my own fed ex package to get my blood to Yale for my Recipient.
I found out that my donor is a 63 year old man who had numerous crossmatches to his friends and family. He has not reacted to me, but there is a small chance he would crossmatch. He works full time still.
I had some mixed emotions regarding his age, but realized I was projecting my own normal surgical fears. Besides 60 is the new 40.

You bet 60 is the new 40! :rofl; :rofl; :rofl; :rofl;
Carl is 63, too! And still working like a horse! Of course we are going to cut our hours back from 10/day to 7/day. It will feel like retirement!
:clap;

Due to lab corp losing my Hep C PRA from last week, my surgery might be off. Not sure I can go through this again.

Hang in there!
