So I have FSGS and my brother has very generously offered me his kidney. I'm going back to the UK next week so we can do compatibility testing. The doctor in England is quite concerned about FSGS reoccuring after transplant, and has suggested that a zero match organ may do better than a close family match. My doctor here in the US, who originally suggested that a transplant from my brother was my best option, is now saying that a paired transplant may be a better option.
I don't want to waste my brother's gift, and I'm in the fortunate position of having several people offer me a kidney. Has anyone had FSGS reoccur post transplant, and if so was the donor organ familial or low match? I'm guessing that the worse the match, the higher the immunosuppresant dose, which then gives me a higher chance of contracting something nasty like cancer...
Any advice would be valued!
