Title: Mom's first fistulagram
Post by: ODAT on May 07, 2011, 09:30:11 PM
She has to go this Tuesday. Her dialysis days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Will they be able to use her fistula so soon after? I've read that it took some people a few days to recover from it.

Depending on where they angio and how the procedure goes will determine when you can use it. It will depend on the bruising and swelling. If the procedure goes good, there is no reason why you wouldnt be able to dialyze the same day, but I usually take a day off. try to dialyze the day before and watch your diet..phos and potassium.
Also, if your fistula is in your upper arm, do not bend your arm for approx 1 hour after the prodedure to prevent clotting..... I found this out the hard way...

My husband had a fistulagram in the early morning and dialyzed that evening. He also went back to work after the the fistulagram. I don't recommend that, though. He is just a tough old bird!  :rofl;

Yes, fistula grams/thrombolisis you can use it right after, however mine was so bad that they had to do a revision surgery on it which I had to get a catheter for a couple months, it was worth it though as my graft runs awesome now!
