Title: Nursing
Post by: HouseOfDialysis on May 02, 2011, 09:17:16 AM
I keep batting around the idea of going back to school for nursing. I'd like to actually get into Nephrology and MUSC(my local medical college) has an accelerated RN program which goes year round for 16 months, pending if you have an Associate's, which I do. I keep thinking about it, but since we're barely scraping by, going to school full-time is likely not the best idea I've ever had.

One other thing to consider is the advisability of spending very much time in close contact with sick people.  Post-transplant, I spend as little time as possible near known germs.

There was a male Neph nurse on the immediate post-transplant unit at my hospital who was a kidney transplant recipient...  He had the transplant and then went back to school to be a neph nurse.  I was told he just took a bit extra caution while at work.

That's part of my thinking, in that I can identify with the patients.
