so here is the deal..i usually do dialysis tues, thurs, and saturday for 4 and a half hours...however i had an unexpectant family emergency on thursday where i had to go out of town (death in the family of a close family member) and will not return until saturday night .....so i missed my thursday and will miss my saturday morning treatment.i called my clinic and unfortunately the only clinic open near where i am only has MWF treatments....no saturdays and are not able to squeeze me in today at such short notice...my last treatment was Tuesday afternoon from 12 to 4:30...so that leaves me going wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday without treatment (my clinic is letting me come in early monday morning for an extra treatment to make up for the missed treatment on thursday)
luckily for me i still urinate at least 4 or 5 times a day and other than the kidney problems i do not have any other health problems.....however in the back of my mind i am still worried about missing 5 days.....has anyone else ever missed more than two treatments in a row and can you tell me how you felt? also any suggestions on things i can do this weekend to lessen the side effects of going such a long time without Dialysis..i have only been on dialysis for like 3 months and have never skipped a treatment before

It is good that you still urinate or the fluid build-up would be awful!
Watch your potassium and phosphorus intake! If necessary take food with you that you can eat so you won't have to eat as much dairy.

In 2008 I got peritonitis while on a cruise, which they determined was due to an infected abdominal hernia. For 3 days they never dialyzed me (or allowed me to eat or drink) while they waited for a surgical spot to do my surgery. Don't know if that helps or not.

I am not sure but if you feel as though you need a treatment can't you go to a local hospital ER ?

yes i have potassium binders that i take with every meal...i may take two instead of my normal one with each meal..and i thought about that..going to an emergency room saturday or sunday night to squeeze in an extra section..

I think she meant Phos binders, because they dont have potassium binders.

Here's a tip to be better prepaired if that happens, check to see if your local hospital does have dialysis machines. Not all do I have found out recently fom a friend. The local hospital close to their house does not have the machines and do not kow how to handle dialysis paitents or even refer them to or transfer them to another hospital that does.
So check your local hospitals website or call to ask.
