Title: The case of the dialysis pervert
Post by: raina on January 09, 2007, 06:51:33 PM
I posted this a few months ago on craigslist forums before I found this site and I'm just curius what yall have to say about this.  There haven't been any incideents with this guy since, thankfully.

I'm on dialysis. Since the process removes fluids from the body much more quickly and unevenly than kidneys would, many of the patients cramp up during the process. Its very painful. Excruciating. An 8 on the pain o meter, and this is on the pain o meter of someone who has had many, many painful surgeries.

To help with the cramps the nurses offer to rub the effected area. I decline, I don't like getting massages from anyone except my boyfriend.

There's a guy in my clinic who gets no cramps when he has the male tech, tons when he has a pretty young woman. Unlike the foot, calf, and lung cramps that seem to plague most of the patients there he gets them in his thighs and stomach muscles only. Possible, I recon..

I overheard the nurses talk about an experiment. On a day he was cramping a whole lot (pretty young nurse, maybe?) they had the only male nurse cover for her when she went to lunch. When he shouted out that he was cramping and the guy showed up to help him his cramps went away almost instantly. No rubbing necessary! When his pretty young nurse came back he needed alot more rubbin to help with his pain.

Coincidince? Perhaps. I tried to give him the benifit of the doubt.. until..

One day, when a new nurse was, um, helping him, he got an erection. He insisted that she continue to rub his thighs, she refused. He was at full attention.

He put a pillow on his lap and yelled that they could not refuse him medical care and she had to help him. She ended up trading his care with the male tech, and he didn't need help anymore.

We have the right to refuse care from any tech we are not comfy with and he did this with the male tech. All the girls who work in my clinic lament having to massage this guy all the time, but they say they can't refuse him medical care. Can the nurses sue the clinic or the parent company over this because the head nurse said they have to massage him pretty much wherever he claims to cramp, or would the suit be against the patient himself (no $$$ I'm sure.)

I feel really sorry for the nurses here, seriously. I think they only make about 10 or so to deal with alot of blood, puke, and even dealing with this guy!

I don't think "NOT" massaging a patient would be considered refusing medical attention. If he is cramping, they give saline, I know if they are REQUIRED to massage the patient. I mean what happens if he says his PENIS is cramping?  :o

Sounds like cheap thrills. He's just not sneaky enough, I guess.
I would maybe rub some BenGay on him... hehehehe.

If I was his nurse, I'd have offered him some ice chips - lots of ice chips.

He looks like he is going to keep us all safe and comfortable in our treatments.

For a while he drug himself in with his tail between his legs, looking VERY embarassed, but now he's back to his normal self.

Except the cramps.  None of those, thankfully.

This guy totally freaks me out.   And the nurses/techs too.

I'm not so sure the guy is actually a pervert.  It sounds like he might be a resourceful young guy trying to make the best of a bad situation.  He sounds like one of the few dialysis patients out there who have managed to turn pain into pleasure. Maybe he should go to the head of the transplant list.  :2thumbsup;

Wow they don't massage in my unit. :P  If I cramp in my foot then sometimes a nurse will tell me to push my foot against her leg. It helps. Or she gives me saline or shuts of my UF for a few min and then back on, or she gives me a heated beanie bag to put on my stomach if that is where the cramp is!  I asked my nurse to scratch my back on Wed but that was only once and she was my favourite nurse that was in ;)
