I just started doing my PD training this week and I've been having uncomfortable feelings during the fill process. Nurse said I shouldn't have much of a sensation, but it feels like liquid is moving in my abdomen and an odd feeling around my urinary area. I was wondering if this was common and will go away eventually. What else should I expect?

The only feeling I had on PD was sometimes a gentle aching when nearing the end of the drain. I never had any sensation while filling.

It can feel strange it is something new to your body.
As for feeling fluid moving around well yup the fluid is moving around. Generaly these feelings go away.
As mentioned above sometimes during draining people feel (drain pain) this too usualy passes after a few days.
As for the odd feeling around your urinary area? Do you mean the boys? If so there could be a chance you have a tear (small hernia) and sometime liquid can trickle down and swell up one of the boys. This may not be the case but just something to keep an eye on in the future.

This was only my second dialysis treatment, so hopefully it'll go away. The drain process is not too fun either, that pinching feeling when you're "done" can be irritating. I am not enjoying the PD process so far...any advice to keep me postive would be helpful! thanks.

Percaveli, You will be fine, it will take a couple of weeks to settle down and after that it should be plain sailing. You will be swishing around with the best of us. Are you doing APD manual exchanges? How much weight, meaning bag weight are you going to carry? My husband carries 2000ml. I am in training process now doing manual exchanges. I started doing 2000 ml but only filling half of the bag. I'm not sure exactly how much I'll be carring since the nurse is starting me off with lower fliuids.

I had a wicked "dry" paiin after I would be near the end of draining. It made me jump out of the chair and scream but after two months, mine is all but gone. Perhaps a little internal tug, but not much else to speak of. And only a passing filling discomfort from time to time, but nothing of note, really.

my first three months or so on pd were very painful during filling and draining. Now things are great. it was a combination of learning what works for my body and allowing my body to become comfortable with all the changes.

I just want to say, Don't Ever Not Prime the Line. My God that was painful. Just make sure that line is primed. I dont do PD anymore, but for other reasons.

Percaveli, When my husband is doing an exchange, he stands up to drain out and sits down to drain in. How are you doing it?

Yes, it is a very strange feeling at first, that's for sure..... but you do get used to it. I was on the manual exchanges for a month, and they wanted me to put in 2500mL at once. That was so much I couldn't breathe! I have large kidneys and liver from PKD and there just isn't that much room in me. They have their standard for what's what..... so I cut it down to 2000 once I got home away from the dialysis center. If I can't tie my own shoes or breathe, well crap, that's not good. Now I am on the night cycler and they are letting me go dry in the daytime, and do 2200 at night. I was pleased that they are paying attention to my take on all of this. I have a terrible pain, like a screw driver on my bladder when I am entirely empty, so I am putting in about 100+ for the daytime. So, this will work out for you, don't get discouraged.... blessings to you.
