Title: Baxter vs Fresenius
Post by: cath-hater on April 18, 2011, 11:34:07 PM
I've been on Fresenius since I started PD 8 years ago.  Had some bumps but nothing major. One time, my machine was malfunctioning so bad, I couldn't properly dialyze for 3 days.  By the time I gave up and requested a new machine, I had to be hospitalized.  But I'm still happy with Fresenius. Orders come on time and their drivers are pretty nice and friendly.

So my neph was suggesting that I switch over to Baxter.  I did some research on the machine and I'm not sure if it's the better choice for me.  First off, you have to have a table for it.  I hear it's pretty sensitive if the table isn't the proper height. I was thinking about traveling with it, and not many hotels have a bedside table except for the table that they put the lamp and clock on.

With my Fresenius macine, it comes with it's own stand, so I don't have to worry about where to put it.  I read somewhere that a woman traveling had to use the ironing board to set her machine on in her hotel room because that was all she could find.

I'm wondering if anybody has been on both and can share some input in the issue?

I've used my Baxter cycler in several hotels, and I am usually able to either use one of the tables or dressers that are already in the room, or request an extra table from the hotel to be placed in my room for my cycler...sometimes you might have to move the furniture around a little, but has never been a real problem in my experiences so far.
