Title: Back to PD
Post by: youngdrew on April 07, 2011, 02:37:38 PM
I am currently on in center hemo right now using a fistula. I was asked by my doctor today if I was interested in PD. I did PD about 17 years ago before my first transplant. I was told when I started back on hemo in july 2010 that I couldn't do PD  because of some the sugeries I've had on my abdomen over the years. I was wondering basically what has changed with PD over the last 17 years? Do I still need all the storage space for the supplies? How big is the PD machine? Back in 1993 the machine was HUGE!! Just looking for some answers to these many questions. Thanks for any help!

Well, the connection methods are better and infection rates are about half of those from 17 years ago. The machine (cycler) is smaller, and it can be hand-carrying on board of airplanes, so travel is easier. The storage space is still needed. Of course, the charge (cost) is much much greater!
