Hello! My name is Sara I am 26 years old. I have been dealing with kidney failure since I was 15. I thought I had the flu, I hadn't been able to keep anything including water down for three days. That is when my mother decided it was time to take me to the hospital. There, I was told I had 7% kidney function a huge shock! From there I was taken by ambulance to a larger hospital. They stabilized me and told me I had two options dialysis or transplant. As young as I was we decided a transplant would be the best option. I lived a year on just 7% function and then without hesitation my 18 year old brother told me he was donating his kidney to me and if I did not take him up on his offer he would give it to a stranger but he would appreciate it if I would take it. So on the first day of my sophomore year of school (his senior) we went in for surgery. It was a success. Sadly two and a half months later my wonderful brother that had just saved my life was killed by a drunk driver >:( I miss him dearly. I had that kidney for about 6 yrs? Then I got a really bad stomach infection almost had to get a feeding tube and my kidney did not survive it so I started peritoneal dialysis and after 18 months of that my mother gave me her kidney! Right from the start before I left the hospital I had trouble with infection. It was a two year battle but they finally gained control of it however the damage was already there. I started feeling better and then found out I was pregnant. My first two trimesters went wonderful my kidney function continued to improve. It all came crashing down by the third my blood pressure was out of control and no medication was helping. Here it was July and my baby was not due until October but the doctor said they had no choice but to take her by c-section. She came in weighing at 2 pounds 1 ounce. She is now 5 and a half months old and weighs 9.5 pounds and is perfect. She has no health problems and has to be on a monitor only at night. Back to me--- I had to start on hemo after she was born. I have had a tech-off catheter placed and am waiting to start back on PD it will be easier not to have to leave my baby three times a week. I am very thankful fore my family they are extremely supportive. This website seems to be just the place I need right now :angel;

Hi Sara -
Given all you have been through you seem to have a good outlook and that will carry you through! And that baby must be a wonderful
addition to your life. I couldn't help but sob when I read about your brother. Our son is 18 and wants to donate to his sister, but we asked that
he finish high school first. Then a wonderful woman in Ohio offered to donate and the surgery is set for Jan. 16! Anyway, I know you miss him
but he will always be a part of your soul! And your sweet mom donating too! What a great family! I hope things continue to improve for you
and you can get the PD going. Best wishes to you! This site is a great source of support. How did you find it? Welcome and keep coming back!
