Title: Age and Gender
Post by: gaelicdevil on March 24, 2011, 11:40:54 AM
Just curious who spends the most time on here? I look in the mirror and still see the person I was, not the person I am. I have been on borrowed time for near thirty years now. Even if I was to live another 40 years (which will never happen) I am past middle aged. So who's out there? Young folks? Old folks? Women? Men? I know everybody and every gender but by replies will truly show me who's ghosting around on this site and what age. I have actually looked at many of your summary's, you should try it, it's great for us kidney stalkers.(LOL) I just have way to much time.

I will turn 50 this year, still a young man at heart. I try to forget being sick and do what I want, hunt, fish, ride my Motorcycle. I feel guilty about Playing when all my friends are working.

I think everyone with kidney failure lives on borrowed time.
Me I'm still 15 at heart, even if I now look a lot older!!!!  ;D

I'm a 37 year old female.  I just started my second stint on dialysis last week.  I was only 15 when I got sick the first time and 20 when I started dialysis the first time.  I am a lot older this time around but still feel too young to be doing this again. :(

I'm a 41 yr old female. But I often feel much older. First time on dialysis, waiting for second transplant.

I'm female, and too old to have to answer questions about my age from anyone except my doctor!   :-*

Although if you'd like a hint - I cracked up laughing reading this quote on cocktail napkins sold at Pier One; " If 40 is the new 20, then cellulite is the new tattoo!"

I've never been described as a ghost before even on one of my worst between transplant moments!!!!!  8)

I don't know your excuse, but it's almost 3AM here, and I'm seeing ghosts.  I think it might be time for me to go to sleep.  When I stay up late like this jabbering on IHD, I can't wake up until gone 10AM.  Lazy git that I am.

My sleep schedule is so wonky that I think I'd die if I had to get up before 8.  I get my 7-8 hours of sleep, but they're from, like, 3-10. ::)  But now that spring is here, I am hoping that will change.  I tend to hibernate in winter.  I blame it on my clapped out kidneys.  Didn't make it to the store?  Sorry, my kidneys are crap.  Didn't get the laundry done?  Sorry, got CKD.  Didn't clean the floor?  Sorry...renally challenged. ::)

For me its the reverse Sugar on steroids ... maybe 4-5 hours sleep tops. Whizzing about with hoovers and lawnmowers ... (I'm very attracted to male machinery  ;) ) and can't switch off my brain, races at 100 miles an hour when on 'puter and my fingers can't keep up!!!
Its like getting younger and younger by the day !!! I'm always up early (with the sun) x

My body is getting slower, but like you, my mind just goes faster and faster.  Sometimes my mouth can't keep up with my brain, and I end up sounding incoherent.  I love foreign films and always watch them subtitled because I like the sound of the native language, but I get so annoyed because the subtitles are so damned slow!  It's just very odd.

I'm going to bed now.  Hopefully my brain will slow down enough to let me sleep.  But then I have problems with my dreams in that they are so vivid and so emotionally devastating that I wake up exhausted.

Goodnight Sugarlump!!!  I hope you have a wonderful day, and I will probably talk to you at 3AM tomorrow night!

No, not that. I don't doubt anyone's responses. More of a reference to myself I guess. Weird hours, long nights, empty house, just need some chains to drag around or change my name to Casper.

Tell me about it. Weird hours. Insomnia while the rest of the world sleeps. Empty house. Too many questions late at night with no-one
to answer them.

Or even to  talk too. The eight year old Basset even gets tired of me. It's funny how all the Doctors want to do is throw more pills at you. No thanks.

I can match that with an 9 year old labrador who is currently snoring! Unimpressed.
Don't even get me started on the pills. 20 a day. Steroids that drive you crazy. BP tablets that don't work. And Doctors that keep changing things.
And good old fear that keeps you awake long into the night.
Don't let anyone tell you a transplant makes it easier...

I never figured it would. For it isn't a cure it is a treatment. I am supposed to do cadaver pancreas/kidney transplant someday. Not looking forward to it. Sometimes I wish I would go to sleep and never wake up. I always find it ironic that I am universal donor O negative. LOL

I'm 27 going on 28 this June, female of course. First got sick when I was 16/17, I did PD for six months before getting a transplant. Nine years later and I'm back on dialysis only hemo this time, it's been a little over a year now. I don't know, I'll take the pills and chaos over dialysis any day, my life and well being was 100X better than this. I'm weak, always exhausted, my hair is thinning, I can't do much recreational wise, I have congestive heart failure because of the complications I've endured while being on dialysis, and I hate fluid restriction. I'm pursuing a second transplant, Monday I was told someone went in to be tested so I have my fingers crossed, this would be the fourth person so far. The other three, when mixing our blood together, my blood had a bad reaction to theirs. Here's hoping!

I feel for you. I know when I was 27 I still had a life. And a Love. How hard we sometimes fall. I don't have too many regrets. Still things I would like to do...I guess we will see.

Well I am AB+ which in theory is the easiest blood group to match ... but there's a lot more to worry about than the blood group.
Its 4.40am in my time zone what about in yours?

In the next galaxy, transplantland, suddenley you're expected to drink 3 litres a day.
Doesn't put me to sleep but does help take away that wired feeling for awhile.
Can't hoover or cut the grass this time of the night, might upset the neighbours...
