I go in on Sunday morning and prep for transplant on Monday morning. My last day at the clinic will be Friday after more than three years of dialysis. What should I do on my last day of in center hemodialysis? What would you do?
Larry

Not everyone is! I dont really know how or what you should do on your last day. Just be yourself cause Im sure the others are aware of your blessing! How fortunate you are indeed!!!!! But please let us know how you are doing and Im sure there are others on this site who can answer any questions you may have. Again Congratulations!!!!!!!

Congratulations Larry!!! I was only on D for a month before transplant.. so I had barely gotten to know anyone... I simply said good bye and thanks.
-
Parrrrrrrrtaaaaaaaay ! :bandance; :cheer: :bandance;
-
Hope every thing goes well. How exciting.Take them a box of sweets, they always go down well.
-
Congrats, Larry. Just let your clinic know you appreciated their care and that it's nothing personal, but you hope that you never have to see them again :waving;
-
I'd let them know that you understand that their good care kept your body in good enough condition that you are eligible for transplantation in the first place! Thank them for keeping you relatively healthy! Congratulations. I am so looking forward to you posting about how wonderful your life has become!! I can't wait to read about your happy news!
-
:cheer: I am so excited for you Larry - please keep us posted!
I can barely remember Jenna's last day at dialysis - the nurse wished her well, I think.
I asked Jenna if she wanted to go back and visit and she said no, she didn't want to flaunt her transplant in front of patients who may never get off dialysis.
Best wishes Larry! :bandance;

Just today I was saying to my husband that we had no idea that our last day of dialysis would be our last.
I agree with BB. Take some chocolates in so folks can share.
We went back to visit our team afterward and I've kept up with them by e-mail.
I'm so glad for you. :cheer:

Congratulations and best of luck. My new kidney is 6 1/2 months old. One thing I am glad that happened; right before I went under, the doctors wanted to know if I would like to see the new kidney. I was groggy, but still clearly can see the kidney laying on ice in a stainless bowl. Wishing you a wonderful, successful transplant. It is always exciting news. :2thumbsup;
I think many said a box of chocolates and I like that idea too. My daugher in law is a nurse and she says they all love it when someone brings them treats.
-
Good luck to you, Larry. Take in a gooey cake.
-
How exciting and i sure hope you come back and fill us in.. All the best!!
-
I agree with those who say that you should thank your entire dialysis team for getting you back on your feet and keeping you healthy enough to get a transplant now.
And congrats to you (soon) joining us EX-dialysis patients with newly transplanted working kidneys!

Here's a note I just received:
Hi,
Just a quick note to say that Larry is in the hospital now and things are moving forward. He will have a short dialysis today and we are hoping that this will be his last drawing. The exact surgery time is yet to be determined. Typically the donor goes in at 6:30 and the recipient goes in at 7:30am. I believe that we will find out soon though and I will post the time in Facebook.
Thanks for all your prayers, healing thoughts and kindness.
Janet
:2thumbsup;

I left the hospital tonight to find that someone had broken into my car window to steal the handicap placard hanging from the rear view mirror. Glass everywhere! Lucky my heater worked for the ride home.....

From his wife Janet:
Great News! Larry is out of surgery and producing lots of urine. One friend said "he's peeing like a race horse!"
I'll post more when I can.

He's found his way out of dialysis trudgery and is now on the newly-transplanted med roller coaster, hopefully soon to be charting the calm waters of renal stability.
Way to go, Larry! Congrats! :yahoo; :beer1; And drink up!

Hi all. I am a transplanted guy. Everthing went well and I am adjusting. The kidney from my beautiful donor is working really well. It is producing so much urine and the creatine levels has dropped to 1.5 the last check. the doctors are very pleased I had a rough night yesterday but feel really good today. Had some fluid retention. I am eating well. Have not walked much but will try and get through the halls today. I feel so good and it is so good not to have that washed out dialysis feeling. Anyway I will post more later.

"Thanks all for your kind words and support. You don'y know what it means to me to hear from all of you.I am doing so much better today. I just need to get up and start walking around. Nathalie my donor went home today.She is doing really well"

I am home and it is good to be here. So I have gone from one extreme to the other as far as fluid restrictions and I have to urinate almost every ten minutes. I am so grateful for the sacrifice and the gift of my donor. Who would had thought placing an ad on Craigslist and in less than three months I would be transplanted. Positive thinking and determination and a loving altruistic donor and miracles do happen.
-
I'm so glad for you, Larry! :2thumbsup;
That overly frequent urination might be caused by slight irritation form the stent. Things should settle down when it is removed. You have THAT to look forward to! :rofl;

Yes I know....hopefully I can convince them to put me out for that one. ;)
-
Great news that you are doing so well.... better to Pee than NOT......LOL
-
Had my followup today after one week of my kidney transplant and everything is great. Doctor says I don't look like someone who was transplanted a week ago. Creatine is 1.3 and all vitals are good except magnesium is down a little so more magnesium foods rather than pills.
-
Going well, Larry.
-
so happy to hear this good news Larry. Good on you for finding your kidney match. Sounds like you are off to a good start with the new kidney. :beer1; :beer1; :beer1; Go you! :thumbup;
-
Natnnnat, It is two weeks in and I feel great. The incision is still a little sore and the swelling is down. No side effects from the meds so far and a lot of my skin issues I had before has disappeared. The best thing two weeks of dialysis free living. I am recouping nicely as well as my donor and another problem is the time I have on my hands feeling good. Not use to waking up refreshed without that dialysis washed out feeling.
-
Wonderful! Keep up the good work. Prayers to you and your donor.
:pray; :cheer:

After transplant followup today.Hard to believe it has been about 7 weeks. All looks good and now come back in three weeks for follow ups. Still need more Magnesium and Phosphorus and Potassium down but feeling pretty good.
Nice hard to state that it is so good being out of dialysis.
-
That is awesome, Larry! I have been wondering about you and you sound really good! You are a Blessed Man, my friend!
Hope all continues upward for you! Keep us in the loop, okay?
