Hi, my name is Mike (male 57yrs.old) I live in San Diego Ca. I was diagnosed with ESRD in 1996. I noticed I was feeling run down and tired for two or three weeks before Christmas 1995 I toughed it out until after the holidays and went to the doctor on the 6th of January. The next day my doctor called me and said I want you to go to the hospital immediately. I did and three days later I had my first dialysis treatment.
Talk about a shock. Evidently it was glomerulonephritis (pretty sure caused by undiagnosed high blood pressure) that killed my kidneys. It's been 15 years now. I was extremely fortunate and got a transplant that first year. It lasted 8 (mostly great) years and I've been back on dialysis (hemo in clinic) for 7 years now.
Doing O.K. with dialysis looking to get back on the transplant list this year. In the past 7 years I've survived extreme neuropathy, congestive heart failure, calciphilaxis, aortic valve replacement and one major fistula reconstruction.
I thank God everyday that I am still here. I am able to drive myself to treatment and take care of my daily needs. But as you all know it's hard sometimes very hard to deal with this disease.
I'm really happy I found this site and I want to thank its creator and all of you who volunteer your time to make it happen. I've been reading the posts on the different boards an I'm looking forward to getting to know the people here.
Take it easy everybody...Mike

:welcomesign; Heymike! San Diego, eh? One of the greatest places in the world to live in my humble opinion. I grew up in Orange County and loved visiting my Aunt and Uncle in San Diego (I've lived in Houston for 20 years now). I have always joked that the easiest job in the world has to be a weatherman in San Diego, "Today will be 75 degress with a breeze off the ocean. Tomorrow will be 75 degrees with a breeze off the ocean. Looking at next week, looks like 75 with a breeze off the ocean."
