Title: Introduction
Post by: whitehackel on March 19, 2011, 05:48:41 PM
Hi, Im new here, hope I,m in the right place. I,m a 56 year old male on dialysis. I,m from Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin,USA.5 years ago I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in my right kidney. They removed it and said I was cured. 3 years later it returned to my left kidney. They removed 2 tumers and said I was good to go. 8 months later it was back  again. We tried cemo for about 8 months, but it didn't work. They removed the remainder of my kidney in September 2010 and I've been on dialysis ever since. The cancer has been back 3 times since.Twice as a skin cancer and once on my colar bone which they treated with radiation therpy. I have to be cancer free for 2 to 3 years to even get on a list for transplant,so looks like I better get used to dialysis. Any questions feel free to ask.

Sturgeon Bay is a nice part of the world.

Yep, you are certainly in the right place!  I'm glad you found us and decided to join.  Are you doing hemo or PD?  How are the treatments working for you?  Are you feeling pretty good?

I'm doing hemo. On the dialysis days I,m totaly wiped out. In between I'm not to bad.I'm having trouble keeping my hemoglobin up. I've been in for transfusions twice now.

Welcome! If you have questions or concerns, this is the place to be. I live in Central Wisconsin also. If you have any questions about State programs available to assist with your medical expenses, I am here to help.  I can't say if this is true for everyone on dialysis, but after the first month I felt less crappy afterward. Now I am able to leave dialysis, have lunch and go to school for 6 hours. My husband who is also on dialysis (it is a long story), goes to his part-time job welding after his sessions. Everyone is different, hope all goes well for you!
