Title: intro from long beach ca.
Post by: tstevens on March 18, 2011, 09:40:01 PM
Hello there, I a have a family history of PKD. My Father was on dialysis back in the 70's. By older brother  started i believe in his late thirties, he lasted about 12 years with one transplant in between, the transplant only lasted around a year. he never took very good car if himself or he would probably still be with us. My sister, who is a year younger than me started out on peritonial dialysis for a few years, but for some reason they had to change it to in center treatment. I just started a few weeks ago 3 hours a day, twice a week. This will be increasing as my renal function decreases.
I am a little surprized how wiped out I am after every treatment, I am assuming this will get better with time.

Well, that's my intro, now that this is out of the way I want to go over to the forum to discuss dialysis center....
Maybe I will see you there!

Looking forward to your posts.

Welcome.

My husband's family is afflicted with PKD as well. His sister is like your brother. She never took care of herself and had to start HD several years before he did. She was fairly non-compliant, even on home hemo and recently broke both hips from bone loss (would not take her Sensipar).

Our daughter also has PKD, except it also affects her liver.

AFter a bit more than 2 1/2 years on home hemo, my husband recently got a transplant.

Hope things settle down for you. It is hard at first to figure out the right dry weight, but once they do, I hope that you won't feel as washed out after your treatments.

Aleta

Welcome to the group, tstevens.  I live right next door to you in Carson.  My friend and I run a renal support group out of Kaiser Bellflower on the third Saturday of the month (that's today) from 2 to 4.  Address is 9400 Rosecrans, Bellflower, right behind the parking structure.  You don't have to be a Kaiser member.  If you're interested, would love to see you sometime.k  Glad you found us!

Hi tstevens. I'm also from LB, and I dialyze (for the last year) at Davita United on Long Beach Blvd., nearly opposite Memorial Med. Center. Started up in BH near Cedars-Sinai and stayed there about a year because my Nephrologist of 30+ years was there, but eventually we couldn't take the drive anymore so found a nephrologist down here, Alice Park, and am happy I made the switch. Now it's a 15 minute drive instead of an hour.

Welcome to IHD. You'll learn lots of good stuff here and get lots of support.

By the way, after 2 years of D, I'm still wiped out after every sessio

n!
