Adrian Dialysis Fire Deliberately Set

December 22, 2006

(Adrian, MI) --- Police said Saturday that they have a suspect in custody on unrelated charges, but he has not been charged with setting a fire that destroyed the Adrian Dialysis Center on Thursday night.

An Adrian police department spokesperson said charges could come early next week.  They would not release the name of the man in custody.

Authorities say the fire that was intentionally set. They say the suspect responsible may be an angry patient.

"It's a devastating, devastating loss to the community and very devastating to the people who need this treatment. It's a matter of life and death for them. And it's a terrible, terrible, viscious crime, said Ray Lewis, Fire Investigator.

What makes it even worse, police believe the suspect who started the dialysis center fire fire may have also set a fire less than an hour earlier at the home of a woman who works at the dialysis center.
