:flower; Hi, My name is Kelli. I started dialysis in 1992. Its kind of a bummer because my mom was on dialysis and I gave her a kidney. It's not a bummer that I gave my mom a kidney its a bummer that I am on dialysis now. I had two healthy kidneys when I gave one to my mom. She had polysystic kidney disease. I lost my other kidney after having high blood pressure during my first pregnancy. I had a transplant in 1994, it lasted until 1999. I was on home dialysis starting in 2002. I had the Aksys machine. I got divorced in 2006 and moved from Seattle to Central Washington (Ellensburg). When I moved over here that is when Aksys went bottoms Up. I then used the NxStage until 2009. I had heart surgery and had to go to a clinic. I decided to stay in center instead of coming back home. It was getting a bit difficult. I am a single mom of 3. I was supposed to have a helper but I did everything myself. For now I prefer to go in center I Of course I would rather be healthy and not be on dialysis but at least I am alive for my kids. As for my mother, Yesterday was he anniversary of her death. She died February 13, 1999. hope everyone is having a good Valentines Day :guitar: :guitar: Well its that time. Got to go get ready for DIALYSIS.

Welcome Kelli!
Wow, I am touched by your story. To give so freely of yourself to help your mother out and then you fall pray also. That has to be some kind of bad luck. I am so sorry. Having said that you seem to be taking it all in your stride and getting on with it and making decisions that are the best for you and your family.
I hope IHD will be a place you can feel comfortable to come to and vent and discuss issues and share your experiences and wisdom with.
Welcome to our community!

Hi Kelli, I'm in Spokane, just east of you. I've never met anyone who gave a kidney and then ended up on dialysis. Is it true that if this does happen you go right to the top of the list? That is what I've read. I hope things stay stable for you for a while. You deserve a break!
