Title: Vale Marge
Post by: natnnnat on February 07, 2011, 03:09:24 AM
My mother in law Marge passed away on Sunday 6th Feb.  She had bowel cancer, had numerous operations and radiation in the past two years, had an ileostomy bag which failed, and was in hospital since September last year.  She was moved into palliative care on December 31 2010.  She stayed cheerful through all that, till we were told that she was now 'stable' and had to be moved to a nursing home.  We were told that on 25th January.  She deteriorated rapidly for the next two weeks, but was discharged anyway.  She lasted almost three days at her new nursing home, where the staff were kind and looked after her with great care.  Wish she had spent the last four weeks there instead of at palliative care.  Its pretty ironic that when she was so frail and sick she was assessed as medically 'stable' and shifted out, at a time when she really did need to be 'stable' in terms of not having to move yet again.

Generally speaking the family are alright.  Its a lot easier when the person had suffered so much, to see the troubles end.  Plus my dad is coming down for the funeral, I love paternal visits so that will be good.  Gregory's strategy for forgetting his troubles is to rebuild his computer, which as happened quite a lot lately :-)

So sorry for your loss, NN.  It's hard to watch a loved one go through all that she went through.  Now,she can be at peace.   :grouphug;

Thanks for your messages.  Sorry I didn't reply sooner, life gets logistical sometimes.  But when you posted, I read them out to Gregory and he was glad to hear from you all.  I think he's slowly coming good, it was a big shock to him, even though it wasn't a surprise.  He was really close to his mother.  Especially after all those years on dialysis, he always said it was her who got him through it, she would help him with his PD especially, ordering all the supplies and helping him lay stuff out etc.  I think the nurses went crook at her once because he was meant to be doing it himself and they found out she was doing a lot for him.
