Title: Brainiac surgeon

This might be helpful to folks planning on getting their catheter installed.

My surgery to install the catheter was out patient. Two days into my recovery after the surgery, I bent down to pick up something and red colored fluid came out of the end of the tube. (Did not have the patient line installed yet.)
Went to emergency, they determined that the genius of a surgeon that I had, forgot to cap-off the line. Needless to say they gave me tons and antibiotics. Luckily it did not result in an infection.
The moral of the story, pay attention to what the surgeons do or don't do.

There is no excuse for that.  Luckily you found out before an infection caught hold.  I had a simular experience.  Went in for a procedure and they put the patient line on but didnt tighten it.  It came apart while i was asleep destroying a brand new bed.  So now every now and again i retighten it just to be safe.
