Title: What are you doing New Years Eve?
Post by: paris on December 30, 2006, 11:17:28 AM
I will probably stop by my daughter's house - she has offered to watch all 7 nieces and nephews (ages 9 down to 1) so their parents can go out.  So, I will be toasting the New Year with sippy cups and apple juice!  It should be a wild sleepover!    New Year's Day, we always have pork and saurkrout   -- yummy---(Penn. Dutch heritage!) but all my neighbors will be eating greens and black eyed peas.  I love the South, but not the greens!    Happy New Year to ya'll  ;D

Oh yeah the ole eisbein and kraut don't forget the spaetzels.  I'm not sure what I'm doing, but I do know at midnight I will be on two wheels.

My family always did the pork and kraut mixed with mashed potato, and called it speck.  I never could eat it.

I'm going to do the Spanish thing this year - you're supposed to eat 12 grapes while the clock is chiming 12.  If you get them all in before the clock finishes striking, you'll have good luck all 12 months.

My family gets together for plum soup and futchens for supper at my parents' house.  We divide up for 2 tables of card playing and winners then play winners.   We have appetizers of ham roll-ups, veggies and dip, as well as fruits and nuts leading up to the 'toasting hour'.  Then its raise your glasses (whatever may be in them,; eggnog, juice, or champaigne) give a toast to better health, more happinesss , and Dad always says; "'may you have rich parents" .Then we four daughters kiss the parents and the one we came with and hug everyone else...  For 3 straight years in the past (2000,2001,2002) my dad has had to go to the hospital on New Year's Eve...we now hold our breath till January 2nd gets here... Things are looking good again this year~ Woo-Hoo!!

My husband, my daughter, and my neices will all stay up to midnight and have a midnight buffet.  We rented a bunch of movies and we'll also play board games.  It's pretty fun. :thumbup;

We live 2 blocks from the Rose Parade route. There are thousands of people that sleep on the sidewalk so they will
have a good seat in the morning. The floats are lined up tonight at 9:00 and there are giant cranes with lights so
its just like daylight. Everyone walks up and down the street and takes pictures of the floats and all the flowers.
At midnight it's like a giant party. Then we walk home. In the morning the television helicopters start hovering at
around 6 am and the noise is crazy for a few hours. Then all the parade people leave and the Rose Bowl football
crowd starts pouring in to Pasadena. It's fun but very inconvenient. My teenagers want to go 5 different directions
and are driving me crazy.
Happy New Year!!
