I am ..most people are suprised when i tell them a) because im female & b) because (ahem) of my age. I collect Dr Who memorabilia . I have a lifesize cutout Dalek and Cyberman an inflatable 5ft Dalek. Loads of models , Cybermen heads , K9 , etc and my most treasured thing, a certificate giving me the 'Freedom Of Dalek City,' which i got on a visit to see Dr Who when i think i was about 6 and a Dalek chased my gran and i kicked it ! So that must be an antique !!! I fell in love when David Tennant became the new Dr and was broken hearted when he left ..oh well a girl can dream . Tee-hee thats thrown a spanner in the works of how you think of me hasnt it !!! So whats your secret collection ?
-
I really do not collect anything except art, and those purchases are extremely infrequent now that I have kids. I think my last purchase was in 2004.
I do find it nearly impossible to part with any souvenir I've obtained from one of my travels. I try to get something small but representative of my trip, which means I have loads of little useless bowls and boxes. Oh, and I need to display them all, or what's the point?
I used to collect shot glasses and Kentucky Derby glasses. Gave all those away about 5 years ago, and I only kept the two julep glasses that Gwyn and I purchased on our last trip to the Derby, which has been over 10 years now. I used to collect soaps, but I've started using all of those because why was I collecting soaps again?
I also used to collect PlayBills and Broadway/West End posters. I had each one framed at great expense. I only bother with posters of the ones I've seen, though. I believe I still have those somewhere, but the only ones I really care for still are the 3 Tennessee Williams posters (Cat, Streetcar and Orpheus Descending), and as they do not fit in with our decor, they remain in the basement.
I have a wicked collection of scars, though! I'd love to hear what others have amassed.
-
I collect all things elephant...
If it has tusks and a trunk, I LOVE it!...
By the way, KS... I'm a big Star Wars and Star trek fan... And I'm also female, and erm, of a certain vintage!...#
Much love to the mutts!...
Darth...

i collect bears and tea for one's, but it's not a secret.
and kickstart, I LOVE WHO! the old ones the new ones, all of them!
-
According to some wags I collect members of my "Harem" :rofl;
I don't really collect much - I used to keep exotic menus from good flights I was on and stuff like that, but I've been trying to clear out a lot of stuff from my place - both to keep things cleaner, and with an eye to moving somewhere new when my tx calms down - so anything like that is probably going to find a recycle bin somewhere.

i collect soccer cards of spain in tournaments they participated in

In my younger days I collected frogs. No, not live ones. Now I collect miniature tea cups and have a whole cabinet full, so, now, I also collect dust!!!!

Did you kiss any of them? Like you never know your luck...

I have amassed a small collection of Colbert memorabilia. I have his books plus the audio books to go along with them, and a couple of movies he was in. I have pins, some posters, a crapload of magazines that he's in or on the cover of, the Tek Jansen comics, and a staff shirt from The Colbert Report, given to me by the former audience coordinator of the show, Mark Malkoff. I think the most expensive thing that I have is a Colbert bobblehead. It is a limited edition promotional item made by GM for Goodwrench dealerships when he was in their commercials "looking for Mr. Goodwrench" in the late 1990's to early 2000's.
I also collect books and movies, which is why I'm forever looking for shelving.. *LOL*
-
The Doors / Jim Morrison books & portraits. Only for the last year have i been collecting ;D

World Cup Champs!!! Viva Espana!! I got to see Real Madrid play at Soldier Field here in Chicago back when David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane played for them. It was so cool! The Spanish team is always has the best looking players (along with the Portuguese...)
I collect kaleidoscopes and handmade pottery jugs, but they're not "secret".
-
I don't think any of mine are secret either.. even the Colbert stuff, although some may think the bobblehead a bit much.. *L*
-
I do love Tek Jansen. Did you see him tonight interview the French philosopher?
-
Ain't no secret about it. I have several paper weights and lots of gems and minerals. I did kind of stop collecting a while back, though.
-
I have collected various things for a long time. Thinking one day i would be able to display them. Well bought a new house and turned a room into a bar. Ironicaly i rarly drink but it is a great place just to hang. I have about 300 shot glasses from around the world. 90% i bought myself others are gifts. I also collect old Jack Daniles tins. Not that i collect but i have two framed candy bar wrappers from the late 40's. A snickers and a milkey way.
I havnt bought in years but have many many baseball/football cards. Every five, six years i will buy a beckett to see what some of the cards are worth.
Oh and change. I have a five gallon water bottle 3/4 full of change. To heavy to lift anymore. It sits next to the bar and says TIPS on it...

I fell in love when David Tennant became the new Dr and was broken hearted when he left ..oh well a girl can dream .
I prefer Matt Smith ... *sigh* followed by *wistful (and somewhat naughty) imaginings* ...
;D
Do you know, I wasn't surprised at all - being a massive Doctor Who fan seems to suit you.
I'm afraid I don't have any dirty little secret collections (although I did once collect unused sanitary bags, the sort that you find in hotels and whatnot; I gave that up when I realised how pointless it was!). Instead I very openly collect perfume and scent bottles. Old, new, tacky, full, empty ... I'm easy! I also collect boxes of miniature perfumes and leave them sealed and decorating the bookcase in my hall. Oh, and I really love Dean & Co. Enid Blyton books but have to scour charity shops for those because they're way too expensive (up to £8 each!) at antique fairs.
I also have quite a big collection (a spare room full) of junk, tat and rubbish.
;D
-
Poppy , you can have him but Davids mine !!! Do you not have any car boot sales near you ? You would be suprised what you can find at them and at a fraction of the price of antique fairs.
-
You girls can divide up Matt & David just give me Amy Pond :) Now I have the energy for a woman like that bring it on!!!! :rofl; :yahoo; :rofl;
-
I quit after clearing out my gram's hoard. If I don't use it or love it enough to want to display it, it's gone! And I'm still slowly whittling away at things I amassed before that, so I still have too many useless knickknacks, but it's getting better. Boxes of things have gone away. If I'm collecting anything right now, it's beads for jewelry making, and those get sold or given away once they turn into jewelry (although I keep some finished things to wear), so it's more of a supply than a collection.
-
I collect Barbie dolls!! I told my husband one night that when I was growing up I never owned a Barbie. That was 2000 so Christmas morning I had a 2000 Holiday celebration barbie under the tree and he has given me one every year since!! (so sweet :cuddle;). I have them all on shelves in the spare bedroom - never taken out of the display boxes. I also collect clocks. I have a grandfather one that hubby gave me for Christmas. I have a display cabinet full of miniature clocks and I have quite a few that just sit on a shelf or a table. I also love lapel pins (brooches) - have well over 50 now.
-
I collect musical instruments...
-
I do love Tek Jansen. Did you see him tonight interview the French philosopher?
yep.. and started typing french in the tcr twitter stream, just for the hell of it.. *LOL*
I never miss the show.. I've been to 3 tapings
-
I collect antique oil lamps though not the really pricey ones. I do display them so I guess it's not much of a secret. I also have a collection of "fishing Santas" that I display at Christmas time. Other than that, I am not a packrat and tend to clear out unused items.

When I was about 8 years old, my mother gave me my first Madame Alexander doll. It was one of the "international" collection; I had always had a dream of travelling to different countries, and geography was my favorite subject in school. The first doll was supposed to represent Hungary. My mom gave me a doll every single year. Even when I lived abroad, she still bought a doll for me and would put it in the china cabinet (it used to be my grandmother's) up in my old bedroom.
When I moved back to the States and remarried, she was getting a bit old and frail, so each year before Christmas, she'd call my husband, and together they would choose a doll for me.
She died this past summer, and my husband asked me if I wanted a doll this year. I said no, it just seemed a good time to end that tradition. I don't have any daughters and probably won't get to have grandchildren, so there's no point in continuing the collection. This was my first year not getting a Madame Alexander doll.
One day, I'll just sell them all. I have one doll that's supposed to be Pocohontas, and she is worth about $600 alone. I'll give the money to a children's charity or something so that the kids can have some new toys for themselves.

I bought some dilithium crystals online that were supposidly used in the Original Series. I"m not sure how true that is. My mother thought I was nuts. I've been thinking of relisting them on ebay, because I kind of need the money
-
Riki, all you need is some quadrotriticale!
-
*LOL* all I needed at the time was to leave the $200 in my f-n bank account
-

Green and black stone as well as wooden handcraft hippo's from all over Africa.

I have NEVER been to a car boot sale. Not ever. Weird, no? We have a fairly big one just a few miles down the road every Sunday and I keep saying, We should go! whenever we pass the roadside sign proclaiming 'As seen on the tellybox!' but we never do. Sunday and early mornings just don't mix.
You remember those badges you earn when you're a Girl Scout? My very first badge was "Collector"...!
When I was a Brownie I only managed to earn three badges (in four years! I was a lazy so-and-so even then) and one of those was the Collector badge. I had a fairly extensive collection of badges (are they called something else in the States?) of which I was very proud.
;D

I used to collect Disney Dogs, but I let the entire collection go at auction. It go to expensive. Pieces were getting to be over 100 a piece. So I quit cold turkey one day and boxed them up.
Now I a light house collection. The light house needs to be named.
I also have an unusual box collection. I have a pic of part of it. The fireplace is behind it all.
-
WOW just get you lot !!!!! I didnt think so many people would come out of the closet :rofl; (thats after they had taken their collectables out first ! )
-
my mom collects reusable shopping bags. She has a bunch from the local stores here, but when we go away somewhere, she usually buys one. She has a Macy's bag from New York, and she bought a Beer Store bag when we were in Ottawa last summer. My friend in New Jersey wants to get her bags from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's

I like to collect experiences but not souvenirs of them and I now mostly like to collect times or occasions when I've cleared things out of my house. I have a few collections of my own (elephants, good fountain pens, antique snuff bottles, old hand coloured botanical prints, orchids, oil paintings mostly by the artist Scott Addis, japanese maples and other garden specimens) and others that I've "inherited" from my mother-in-law (matchbooks, silk handkerchiefs, and good china are just a few examples since she tends to collect everything).
However, I feel strangely unattached to any stuff, even the things I like a lot and often visualize or imagine my life without them. My ideal would be to have only things that I actually use plus artwork and plants. When I used to travel a lot and when I used to do wilderness canoe trips I was always surprised by how little I needed and by how much simpler and unburdened my life seemed as a result of dealing with far fewer things.
My husband collects books, music (including vinyl), canoe tripping maps and magazines, old movies on tape or DVD, and my ideal would be for us to have small matching houses, side by side...his stuff in his and mine pretty empty, excepting of course the stuff I use plus art and plants. He could visit any time.

I think my parents have that, only Dad's house is much smaller cuz he didn't need to raise two kids in it. *L* His house is full of model cars and model boats

Gee, I need to start a collection of something lol. I guess around here we collect guitars. We have several hanging on the wall down our long hallway along with atutographed things & cool rock 'n roll pictures. I really just don't have the room for a big collection of anything. I do have quite a "collection" of bad habits lol. Does that count?Have a great day!
