Hubby has been sick with belly cramps and the "runs" (no vomiting!!) since last Tues. evening. For 2 days he was really bad - luckily we have a washroom in our bedroom and the hoses on the machine are long enough that he does not have to disconnect to get there!! One night I think it was 7 or 8 times he had to drag the machine to the washroom. He has been getting better but still having some problems. Saw our doctor yesterday and she thinks it was food poisoning and now his bowel is a bit irritated. Only thing we can figure out that may have caused it is leftover pea soup he ate or ice cream (a flavor I don't like). That's the only 2 things that I did not eat as well!! Of course old man anxiety has stepped in as well with him thinking he has some terrible disease and is going to die!! (Think I'll have him around for a while yet though LOL). Some of that was relieved yesterday after he saw the doctor. He is feeling much better but wonders if anyone else on here has had food poisoning and how long it takes to get totally better. He is down to only having to visit the washroom 3 or 4 times a day now!! Wasn't a good new years eve!! New Year's dinner was toast and tea!!!

Above all else, keep him hydrated... His electrolytes need to be maintained at a normal level.
I speak from tragic personal experience. My 32 year old otherwise healthy husband got food poisoning 12 years ago and he basically ignored it for 4 days. He didn't really "ignore" it, but he didn't keep up with replenishing the fluids that he was losing through the vomiting and diarrhea. It cost him his life. We didn't know it then, but he ended up dehydrated and it messed up his electrolytes. He died in his sleep from a cardiac arrhythmia on News Years morning.
I don't know how you keep someone hydrated who is on dialysis because I am not quite there yet, but I do know it is very important. After my DH passed away, I always kept Pedialyte in the cupboard for the kids...

I had food poisoning once. I thought I was having a problem with my transplanted kidney. Before the doctors figured out it was food poisoning (it only took them 3 days), they did a spinal tap thinking I had spinal meningitis. That didn't make me feel any better either! I was sick (it was coming out of both ends) for 5 days in the hospital. Then when I got home it took almost another week before I felt completely better. I got it at a family reunion from hamburgers. I hope your hubby gets better soon. It is hard to be sick and do dialysis.

I hope he feels much better sooner than later.

He is feeling much better tonight!! He's been eating well for a couple of days. I think the probiotic yogurt I bought for him has helped.

The caltrate binder I take often gives me the trots. I had problems after Xmas, but that was because I ate and drank too much and then it took ages (and tough sessions) to get back again. I hope Mr Nice Guy gets better soon.

Good to hear that he is on the mend!
