I am on the list to get a transplant. I someday would like to have atleast one more child. I am fortunate enough to have one child before starting dialysis, but I cant hlep but wonder if I will be able to have another child if I ever get married after getting a transplant.
I will NEVER ever consider having another child on dialysis, but what about transplant? Wont that create more antibodies and make the reject a kidney? Just curious if anyone has any experience in this area.

No personal experience, but all my transplant info said if there were no other complications, then pursuing pregnancy after you've had a transplant for a year is the doc-recommended time frame. They want you to have enough time without a rejection episode before adding any extra strain. I hit 40 this year, so a kid would be an iffy idea even if I was healthy, so I haven't given it any thought. It certainly isn't out of the question if you are younger, though. I don't know what the stats are on complications/rejection if you get pregnant, though.

I agree that if you are doing great and the kidney is doing great after one year you could at least, under the care of your neph and OBG, discuss it. Good Luck!

I was transplanted in 1989 and had our daughter in 1994. I didn't have any problems with my pregnancy and was working a full-time and a part-time job. For some reason being pregnant made me feel the best I had in my entire life. I'm sure much has changed since then. At that time my medications did prevent me from breast feeding. As long as you are otherwise healthy, it shouldn't be a problem. I would talk it over with your doctor, and do lots of research on your own.
