Title: PD Training has Started!
Post by: denise1040 on December 18, 2010, 04:07:15 PM
I have had three days of pd training so far. Learning manual exchanges first then the cycler. Using 2500 liter bags with1.5 and 2.5 strength. I can feel the pressure of the solution inside me but luckily no drain pain when we flush. Yesterday the pd nurse asked if I could disconnect by myself. She went to make a phone call. I had the instruction chart to follow. When the bag was empty I looked under the heading for to disconnect. It said to mask and wash hands then open mini cap, disconnect connection from transfer set then cap. When I disconnected from transfer set, solution begin to pour out. I put mini cap on. Then looked at chart to see what happened. Under the fill heading it said to close transfer set and clamp line. Oops! Did not look at that part because we had already filled. Told pd nurse about the mistake. She was only worried that I had contaminated. Told her I was sure I had not. We be more careful from now on! :oops;

Denise - your bit about the fluid pouring out made me smile! I remember well the first time I did that - after a few weeks on PD! It took me a few seconds to work out WHY the fluid was running out! It is a bit of a shock when it happens, ah? Good luck with your training. I am amazed at how the dreaded D has become routine so quickly - hope that is the same for you and you have a problem free run with it.
