Title: Todays best bargain
Post by: Pam on December 05, 2010, 05:43:31 AM
I'm not a shopper. Yesterday my friend dragged me to Bed Bath & Beyond. They had a rack of clearance and display model stuff, I was just looking. OMG I found a Keurig 1 cup coffee maker for $45!!!  :clap; No box or anything so I had to buy the filter to use my own coffee.
Anyone else find any great deals?

Wow, a keurig pot for that price???? My friend just bought herself one and paid double that amount. She will cry if I tell her, so, I wont tell her.

I bought my dad's Christmas present cheap. He wanted a touch screen camera and the one that had the best user comments was selling for $250. First Walmart store had it for $230, but was out, so looked online and it was 220. Went to Best Buy to match price, but they had the wrong color (green), so stopped at Walmart close to that Best Buy and it was $210 and it was the color he preferred, plus the protection plan was only $20 for 2 years where Best Buy wanted $50 for 2 years or $28 for 1 year.

Mom was flipping through the Walmart flyer on Sunday, and she saw that they had Twilight Eclipse, Saturday and Sunday only, for $12.98.. so we got dressed and went to Walmart.  I figured they'd be all gone.. but they had a whole rack of them.  So I now have 3 of the 5 movies.  I'm still waiting for the last 2 to be made and released..

Team Edward or Team Jacob?

No bargains for me recently, but I do currently have a desire to browse Pound Shops (where nothing costs more than a pound!) because they have some good stuff if you look hard enough and aren't snobby about where you're caught shopping.

I've gotten TWO great deals in recent days. First, I found a secretary in the antique store for $400; went on Craigslist and found the exact same secretary for $100. Just a little bit of elbow grease, beeswax and lemon oil and it was stunning - worth far more than we paid and utterly perfect for its intended use. Yesterday, I got a $400 TV stand from Cost Plus World Market - for $40 (Craigslist again).

So, $800 worth of furniture for $140 - be still my frugal heart!  :bandance;

I have a good deal for this thread, valid for today only, and only for the American residents as far as I can tell.

There is a site similar to Groupon called Living Social (livingsocial.com) that sells local gift certificates at a discount. Well, today they have got a deal for Amazon - buy a $20 gift certificate for Amazon.com for only $10. They have sold over half a million already. If any of you are less lazy than I am, if you send the link via FB or plain old email and get 3 other people to buy one, you get yours for free. (I took a shortcut and just phoned my mother who will tell nearly half the planet. I could sense this will be her mission for the day. :))

The nicest thing is that the certificates do not expire, which is truly unusual for these sites. You can only buy one, but I am hoping that both Gwyn and I will be able to purchase and use one. Anyhow, you only have about 18 hours left to get in on this deal, so if you're interested, check it out soon.

Team Edward all the way.. *G*  I have a thing for vampires...

I love dollar stores.  It's the best place to get candy, as far as I"m concerned.

Are any other Americans out there doing the BP "let's buy our way back into the public's good graces" rewards program? One of our local stations is participating. You must go into the station with your receipt, so a minor hassle there, but so long as you've bought more than 8 gallons of fuel, you receive a card with a code on it. Collect five codes, enter them on whatever the name of the site is, and they will mail you a $10 petrol card.

We go to BP anyway, so I am not making any special trip for this. It's been ages since I've walked into a station, though, and just for welcome-back atmosphere, the man in front of me was shouting "what time do they sell beer in this town?!" The answer 9 in the morning came from one of his fellow patrons. Lucky him, it was at least ten past.

I think the program ends some time in March, so do have a look.

Haven't been to BP in a long time. Their gas is the highest in my area. I to hardly go inside the gas station unless the reciept doesn't print. However the gas station I go to has any size drink/ coffee/ cappachino for $0.89 and with rewards card get a free one after 5 purchases of coffee or drink.

I love True Blood; we've only just started season 3 in the UK.  I also really really REALLY love Being Human.  Has the American remake come out now?  I'd like to give it a gander simply to see if they've faffed around with it too much and turned it upside down and bonkers.  I think that Being Human is very British (dare I say, English) and won't translate well into 'American' ... but maybe I'm just being precious.

 ;D

Anyways, onwards to today's best bargain ... okay, so technically it's yeasterday's best bargain ...

Yesterday I toddled into town and tried on a little denim skirt I desperately wanted.  I (very disappointedly) decided it made my knees look fat so didn't buy it.  A few minutes later we went into the Kidney Research charity shop on impulse and I spied a little denim skirt which I just HAD to try on.  It didn't make my knees look fat.  I bought it.

Price of the brand new little denim skirt in my favourite shop? £40 (or, in American speak: $64).  Price of second hand but looks new little denim skirt? £3.99 (or, $6.41)

I'm a happy bunny! And I contributed to kidney research as well!

*sticks chest out proudly*

Dropped of a friend from school today who was called in to work and had taken the bus to school.  Dropped her off in a town 15 minutes past campus.  I hadn't been there before, so rather than head straight home, I went to the mall next to where she works.  Yikes!  It's the biggest mall around and was absolute bedlam on a Friday.

But, I did get a lovely $90 dress at 80% off.   It always makes me laugh when they are getting rid of winter clothes at drastic discounts in February in Michigan.  They have swim suits and flip flops on display instead.  Hello?  It's going to stay snowy and cold for the next 3 months!

Also hit FYE - which sells used DVD's and was running a buy one, get one half off sale, so I crossed two movies off my wish list for a total of $17.

Nothing I really needed, but it's always fun to get a good deal.  I avoided the craft store and the book store, so there wasn't much in a mall to tempt me after that!
