My name is Barb and I have been on hemo dialysis for about 1 year and half. I currently dialyzes in center, but am interested in starting in home dialysis as soon as I am freed next month from my HMO insurance that does not cover it. I am also a cancer patient diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma 10 years ago. The beast worked away at my kidneys all those years until they finally gave out. My goal is to achieve what they call a "complete response" so that I may be eligible for a kidney transplant. My social worker at the kidney center referred me to this website so here I am looking to glean from others and hopefully contribute as well.

Thank goodness for your social worker! S/he knows what s/he's doing! There are so many people here who are in all different stages of this process; a wealth of information and compassion and understanding is at your disposal here on IHD. Welcome to our community!
I have never heard the phrase "complete response"...what does that mean? How long does that take? When might you be eligible for pre-transplant evaluation?

Hi, Barbinska.
There are many folks here doing home hemo. I am a care partner to my husband and we have been using NxStage for over 2 years.
I hope you are able to make that switch. :2thumbsup;

Barb, welcome to IHD. I guess there is at least one smart Social Worker out there. Yours! He/She referred you to this site! :thumbup;
You will get a lot of support from here and you don't have to pay a dime. Just come here where we understand.

:waving; Welcome! I hope you can get on home hemo very soon. Those here who do it really seem to like it.

Hi Barb, glad to have you join IHD. :welcomesign; I also am caregiver to my husband and we currently do home hemo with NxStage, which he likes a lot better than in-center. Hope to see you posting.
