Title: NYC initiative to save Kidneys/Organs
Post by: billmoria on December 01, 2010, 03:46:52 AM
NYC on some 911 calls will send two ambulances. One to try and save patients life. The second will try to save kidneys if the patient dies. Is is hope this will increase supply available kidneys.

it's a good idea, but doesn't that mean there will be less ambulances available for emergencies?

The second ambulances are specially designed to preserve organs and get them to hospitals. I don't think they are suitable for use as regular ambulance.

Are you sure, billmoria, this is not a spoof all along?
If not, the imagination runs riot...  :o  :o

For example: who sits in the third ambulance car?
The millionaire recipient with his banker, ready with the hand-outs?   :o

The leading question remains:
How can a medic take-out an organ with one hand
whilst the other hand is firmly grasped “on the dosh” ??  :o

Will this breed a new Elite-Medic ????  :o

...By the time the victim gets to the Hospital,
there is nothing left of him/her, every bit is recycled en route... ? ? :o

 The undertakers will become obsolete...

Ihope your kidding.  :shy;

Bad night at dialysis so my humor button is on off.

Time will tell but it seems like a good idea to me.

Surely the second ambulance is to keep you on life support when your brain is (more or less) dead so that your organs can be harvested in the optimum state. That's different from keeping you alive with the objective of resuscitation, for which the first ambulance is equipped.

It is a widely but mistakenly held belief that life support is withdrawn before surgery to remove organs begins.
