So....after 6 months on in-center HD next week I have my appointment with the transplant commission...but today during my session I found out that there is a 90% chance that I'm going to need surgery on my tiroird glands....get them removed......I hate my disease.

I know many other members have had their parathyroids removed and have not had too much down time or pain. I am sorry you have to do this. I don't understand though, why you aren't evaluated, then put on inactive, so you can accrue time. I would ask about this.

Why do you have to have them removed. Can't you take Sensipar? It works great for shutting them down. Once you get your new kidney you won't need to have them out.
I don't get it?
Ask some questions. Demand answers. :waving;

Ask about sensipar. Hubby has been taking it for about 4 months without any side effects at all!!

hmmm. My PTH did not go down after my transplant...maybe it was too late for that. I did have a parathyroidectomy in October, and it has made a huge difference. My PTH was not controlled with Sensipar-- and believe me, we tried. My California docs wouldn't approve the parathyroidectomy, but I pursued it as soon as I moved to Texas a few months ago, and ta-da! PTH is in a good range...finally.
