Title: Hola!
Post by: theflanintheface on November 28, 2010, 12:09:34 AM
Hello everyone, I'm Cynthia, just turned 23 and live in Lima, Peru.

I was diagnosed when I was 15 and started hemodialysis the very next day, which was a shock for me and my family because I have always been a really healthy girl, anyway it was all going great but after a year I started to feel really ill so I started Peritoneal dialysis, and I got a transplant in 2005 from my dad!! I'm blessed with an amazing family that helped me get through this difficult time and thankfully it's all going really well. I am studying to become a photographer and I'm doing my thesis about scars :)

I just wanted to say hello before I start posting, and thank you for this forum, it's great! you all are very supportive and that is really appreciated!

Hey Cynthia, welcome to these forums.

That's really young to have experienced renal failure. I'm glad you're doing something with your life. I'm 25 and rebuilding my life. If you ever feel down the members on this website are great and are just like family members. Keep your chin up, and if you need a lift, I'm addicted to positivity! Lol

 :welcomesign; Cynthia!

My Spanish tutor was from Peru, as was my son's Spanish immersion teacher last year. Two of the sweetest people you could ever meet.

Your English is perfect - have you lived in Peru all your life?

Love the idea for your thesis and the pic is superb! Well done!

Hi Cynthia and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  You write really good English.  I'm assuming that in Peru the primary language is Spanish?

Best of luck with your transplant.  I hope you post often.

Yeah, I think it's a great forum, I've been reading a lot of helpful stuff. I don't have enough time to post tho (final exams) but I will next week!

I had the oportunity to study in London for a month but I-ve always lived in Lima. Yes, we speak Spanish, it used to be Quechua maaany years ago but not many people knows it now.  I love studying languages and I've always liked English, luckily my school had a great program so I just practised since I was little and I also got a bit obsessed with British music.

Ohh, so you speak Spanish, that's great! And Peruvians are amazing people  ;D

I do speak a fair amount of Spanish, though I wish I had a way to practice more. My wonderful tutor moved to another state to start her PhD, and I really cannot afford the money or time anymore. I've wanted to move to Spain for ages, but that would not be practical for my husband who does not speak any Spanish.

Ah, yes, Quechua. Famed amongst anthropologists for being "the most difficult language in the world" to learn. I am told that it was chosen for the bar scene in Star Wars (the first film) because so few people know it that it could pass as an alien language. It's amazing the trivia you pick up in anthropology.

I agree that every Peruvian I have met has been just lovely. It is a pleasure to meet another here on IHD. :)
