Hi IHD people, its been some time since I have wrote in the forum but you are never far from my thoughts...
I am scheduled to have my transplant Monday Nov 29th. I started dialysis Jan 13th 2007 and I have high antibody counts so it took some time to get a match. I had 12 people try to give me a kidney over the years and no luck. Finally Canada started a cross country match system and the first time me and my son Kyle were in it we found a match. Kyle will be giving his kidney so that I can get a match for mine.
He will be donating his to a lady in Saskatoon Sask. and I have no idea where mine is coming from. There is 31 recipients in my group, and 31 donors... Simply amazing.
I have so many emotions going through me at this time I can barley stand it , but I will be OK by Monday. Kyle will be operated on at Toronto General Hospital and I will be operated on in Halifax.
I am very happy for myself but my last days at dialysis are turning out to be very hard. I look at my friends faces that I have gone through so much with over the years and wish from the bottom of my heart that they were getting there match also. Its a very bitter sweet feeling.
If this kidney lasts 10 days to 50 years it is defiantly the most remarkable thing I have ever been through. The total love of my 23 year old son donating his kidney so his mom can be better. Amazing.
How many times I have told a donor that they are a hero, I feel that this word is a huge understatement... but at last a better word escapes me

Congratulations Kim :clap;
No one that tested for me has been a match either.
As soon as my daughter finishes her testing and is approved we will be participating in the Paired Donor Program also.

I will be doing IVIG treatments if all goes well next month so hopefully mine will lower and I can receive my daughers kidney (she just finiished all the donor testing today). It's a miricle what they can do now. Keep us updated on how your doing. Again Congrats!!! :yahoo;

wow 31 kidneys in the chain. That is sensational!!
It so happens i have been to the little city of Saskatoon, and know a gorgeous young lady there so I am quite fond of that locale. Now I am a little more fond of it and the citizens of that little prairie town!

Kimcanada,
Congrat lations, you're ahead of the game with your thoughts and emotions and they will only get stronger. The next few months will be a roller coaster with the meds but you will treasure your new life post transplant beginning as soon as you wake up in the recovery room and the miracle of being part of a 31 kidney swap will only grow as time passes.
godspeed,
Ed

I visited Kim's son Kyle this evening at the Toronto General. He's looking and feeling terrific, hasn't and won't meet his recipient, and was hoping to be released today. Doubt that will happen but most likely tomorrow for sure.
Kyle is a super nice young man in addition to being a bona fide hero. :flower;
