Title: hi there!!!
Post by: missenya on November 20, 2010, 06:22:35 PM
Hey there!!! Im Enya, Im 21 and live in Tasmania, Australia!
i found out i had kidney problems when i was 14 and got a transplant from my mum in '06. This has just recently failed on me in july. The doctors still arent entirely sure of the reasons. Anyways, im now on PD which will hopefully start working properly soon (ive had some problems as my fallopian tubes attacked my tenckhoff tube and blocked it all up) and next month im getting a fistula done just incase i get problems again!!! i also currently have a permacath in my chest!!! cant wait til i can get that out and wear low cut tops without feeling so self conscience!!! That should come out in december!
Anyways im hoping to get a degree in fashion design and im a typical 21 year old who likes to party!
I've found it difficult to find info for people around my age about kidney problems and dialysis, but this website has been helpful so far

g'day Enya and welcome from another aussie!!!  :ausflag;

I'm so sorry your mum's kidney didn't last too long. That's really difficult for you and your whole family I am sure. I am hoping things will get much smoother soon for you!!! LOL @ low cut tops... yeah, we all want to see that (ok ok I'm just a dirty old man!!) but since it's summer coming up I can definitely understand you want to get out there and not have that crap in your chest in the way (for swimming too!). Hopefully if you can settle into PD they can get that out.

Good to have you with us and hope to hear more from you!

Hi Enya,

The age range of people with kidney issues is so vast. I've always wanted to have a say in clothes design for women who don't like to show their upper arms (me). I wear the 3/4 length sleeves. Maybe you can be the voice for people on dialysis. Like when my mom had the catheter she was always looking for a "convenient" top to wear that wouldn't get in the way. Also she never wore a bra while having the catheter. Another thing she mentions is sleeves. She wants to wear a sleeve long enough to cover her fistula, but it also has to roll up easily.

Hope you are doing well!
