Title: Laying my Moms dog to rest today
Post by: Sluff on December 22, 2006, 06:13:16 AM
A very tough day today for me. A lot of emotions. My Mom passed away 2 years ago and I promised her I would take care of her baby. A poodle named Buffy.  Well it's just her time and I have to do what I have to do. For some reason this time just feels a little harder than past times when this had to be done with other pets.  I guess you never get used to it. I know I'm doing the right thing but it is hard. Buffy is 16 years old and has had a good life.

Sorry Sluff. This is tough and it probably feels like losing the last connection with your Mom.  Sweet little Buffy will be with your Mom now.

Sluff, i know this may sound funny but CELEBRATE my friend,  your moms beloved dog will be with her once again and this time for all eternity.  :clap;  I remember a story about peoples pets that have passed being in a place called Strawberry Bridge or something, i am going to have to look that up, it was very comforting to read, i'll look into that.  God Bless you for who you are and all that you do my friend... :cuddle;

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It's the "Rainbow Bridge", but I couldn't read it until over a year after my Missy died, and I still tear up every time I read it!!

Sluff, I am so sorry.  I cannot imagine how hard that is for you.

When My father's sister died, no one wanted Sophie, her longhaired dachshund.  I brought her back to SC from FL and it was wonderful to have her here.  Her first winter and snow were soooo funny -- that low to ground belly and snow were a shock for her, but she learned to use the ramp instead of the steps so it didn't drag. ;D  When Sophie died from pancreatic cancer it was like losing my Aunt again. :'(

It has to be so much harder for you, so my thoughts and prayers are with you.  :cuddle;  But know that she has gone to a much better place too.

I don't remember where I read this but I like it very much.  "I know there are dogs in Heaven because if there were no dogs, it wouldn't be Heaven."

Oh, Sluff, I'm so sorry you're having such heartache, especially at this time of year.  But the last kind thing you can do for an animal friend is to put an end to its suffering - the ultimate loving act.  And I think it's perfectly appropriate that it never gets any easier to do that - saying goodbye to a wonderful friend has to hurt, even when it's the only good decision that can be made.

This has to be especially awful because Buffy was your mom's, but you can be proud that you kept your promise to your mom, and I'm sure Buffy has benefitted from your love and care, especially when she lost your mom.  And now they'll be together.

Thinking of you, and Buffy, and your mom, and wishing you all peace.

Thanks everyone for the caring thoughts and the inspiration to accept this. :thx;

I know Buffy is running around and looking for her real owners now, and what a joyous reunion it will be. :thx;

I do understand what you are going through.  Our dog Capree died earlier this year and my daughter, especially, was shattered.

Sluff, I know how it feels to have to lose a dog.  We had to let ours of 14 years go a few years ago.  If there is a heaven I know that the dogs are there!  I know mine had to have a soul of some kind!

Dogs are such good friends and this one has connections to your Mom
so it would be even more sorowful.
I feel for you.  Reminds me of when we had to put down our 16 yr old dog.
It was a sad time.
