Title: Home Haemo Dialysing...Any hints for a beginner?

I've been haemo dialysing at home for two weeks now...
* I self cannulate with blunts to two established button holes
* Connect up and usually run for 6 hours
* Blood pump speed 300
* With a goal loss of less than 2000 which gives me a UF rate 300 plus
* I do one day on and one day off which gives me a fortnightly cycle of 7 days on and 7 days off
* I try and dialyse first thing in the day so I can have the afternoon free

I'm never going to get a transplant so I'm stuck with the machine (Fresenius 4008) for a while, I guess...my question is...do any of you veterans out there have any suggestions that might help me?

Hi, Bruno -

I did not feel qualified to answer your post as you were seeking advice from 'veteran' home dialyzors and I've only been doing it for two weeks. But if you'd tell me what kind of hints or suggestions you're looking for I'd be more than happy to try to help if I can. You learn very, very quickly once you start dialyzing at home; we've seen noticeable improvements in our knowledge and techniques just from the first treatment to this last (eight total).
