ohhhhhhh boy, how exciting!! REALLY!  It's a beginning to feeling better.  I know theres many here that LOVE the freedome of it and the way they feel..  I wish you the best and im sure you'll get some great info from others who have 'been there'  ;)  We are going to be starting NxStage in a few weeks and for me, the cannulating is going to be huge.. Im going to want a party after my first success with that..lol

PD catheter surgery should be simple. It is not a walk in a park, but it is nothing to worry about. The trouble thing is that, like any surgery, it takes a while to heal and before this, we have to keep it dry.

Just went through PD surgery about 2 months ago, I was nervous also, but I did mine in a hospital in Okinawa, Japan.  They are very cautious as I spent about 10 days recovering and receiving PD training.

You should be fine please keep us posted.

Your gut will feel bruised and sore for a few days. They give you pain pills for that. The training was difficult for me because I was quite sick when I had to do it. So know that you will have to spend a good amount of time doing training. It was worth it for me to be able to do dialysis at home. BEST WISHES, VERA

I have had 2 catheter placements, oe in June and a replacement in November. My first one was like any out patient surgery.I went home that same day and I was pretty sore. lol. But really nothing to it. The last one was great. I barely experienced any pain at all, even when I woke up after sugery. I even went to a sit down restraunt to eat afterwards. You shouldn't have any problems with it. I hope you do just great. Let us know how it goes! :cheer:
