Title: New Member from Australia
Post by: cassandra 1 on November 04, 2010, 01:24:47 AM
 Hi my name is Cassandra and I am on Heamodialysis I am 41years old with 4 children with my youngest aged 10.  I am sick of being on dialysis and waiting for a transplant!  I am contemplating only doing 2 days a week instead of 3 because I am so depressed!

Golly Cassandra, don't do that...you are taking a big risk. I'm from NSW so I know you can get the treatment you should and 3 days a week is minimum. It must be almost impossible with children for you but you need to be in the best shape you can for a transplant. Keep on trying, luv, we are all wishing you the best.

If you read all my posts
I HATE DIALYSIS more than most people (if that is at all possible) But I never miss a second of it. Please re-think this as it will only make you feel worse than you already are. :puke;

If you feel that the depression is really getting you down..... get help (note to self) there are people and medication out there that will make you feel so much better.

I am thinking of you and wish you well.

Hi Cassandra and welcome to IHD.  I'm so glad you found us.  If you still urinate quite a bit check with your doc and see if you can do 2x a week.  If you feel bad or your fluid starts to build up than you'll probably have to start 3x a week again.

Have you thought of doing the peritoneal dialysis?  They set you up on a night time cycler that does the exchanges.  In the morning you disconnect and go.

I do hemo in center at night.  It is called Nocturnal.  My days are free and I go 3x a week for 8 hours while I sleep.  Not sure if you have that option in Oz.

Don't get me wrong.... I still hate dialysis, but I can function.   :angel;

Hi, Cassandra, and welcome to the group.  Please rethink going to 2 days a week.  The more dialysis you have the better you feel.  Glad you found us!

g'day Cassandra from a fellow aussie. Hmm when I was at high school I had a crush on a cute girl named cassie... hehehe  :rofl;

It must be so difficult for you to play your role of mum to 4 kids (that would be tiring for ANYONE let alone someone on dialysis!) and perhaps working or whatever else you're doing apart from HD. I can understand being depressed. Have you spoken to anyone professionally about this? Have you discussed the issues with your neph and/or social worker to perhaps get referred to someone for some help?

If you go to 2x/week you'll only do yourself a disservice - you'll feel worse due to the fluids and toxins building up and not being cleared so much, and you may well be marked as being noncompliant. You didn't say if you're listed for a transplant, or how long you've been on D, but that decision could also impact that situation if you're on the list. It may feel better to not go so much, but you won't be doing your kids any favours either.

Please consider carefully and come here and vent if it helps! That's what we're for!!
