Title: Cant pee well after transplant.. Driving me nuts anyone had this problem??
Post by: Neo on November 01, 2010, 09:43:06 PM
well so far everything has went great no problems the kidney is working great. It's just that I had the catheter out after the 5th day, peed ok for a few hours but than it got tougher to go and I had a huge urge to go. I went just only 75cc at a time. They seem to think it has to do with the fact I hadn't peed in 7 years, and the anesthesia may have affected the prostate temporarily enlarged it a bit so I'm on flomax. I had to get a catheter put back in cuz the pressure on my bladder was pretty painful and they didn't want to mess anything up. The docs say it's no biggie. They said my bladder will "wake up" soon. After i came home i had the catheter in for the weekend today i got it out again and still cant pee! Only a small amount and than my bladder gets filled up and causes so much pain! Its painful to pee too, like kneel on the ground pain! Worst ive ever had... Anyone else been through this after their transplant?? I cant find anything online about the subject.. They seem to think that ill pee soon but Its horrible getting the catheter pulled than inserted than pulled again... This is awful.. What to do???

Jenna has to use a self-cath 4 times a day because her bladder has never worked right (and the pressure of a full bladder is what damaged her kidneys, so be careful.)
They can teach you to self-cath. We met kids less than 5 years old that were taught to do it, and will have to for the rest of their lives.
I am not saying using a self-cath is permanent, but it's a lot better than having a foley catheter in dwelling, that must be awful!
It was tough the first couple of times, but Jenna got the hang of it and it's quick and routine for her now.
Here's an overview for males. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003972.htm
I hope your lazy bladder perks up over time and you'll soon be peeing anytime, anywhere!

Have you had any "accidents" yet? I had one while I was still in the hospital, and one that I remember clearly about 2 years later... I was a teenager at the time, so it was rather embarassing... *L*

No... No accidents I've been great since I've been able to go... I went 1000cc today... So thankful..... I'm sure you can have an accident I thought I would because my bladder is so small from not urinating on dialysis for 6 years but I jut have a urinal for at night and that way I avoid the accident..
