Acid Purification System utilizes diffusion dialysis technology

October 29, 2010 - Designed for recovery and recycling of industrial acids, laboratory-sized Acid Purification System uses diffusion dialysis to separate, recover, and purify strong acids from spent acid solutions contaminated with dissolved metals. Purified acid is returned to process tank for continued use, while concentrated metal-containing aqueous solution is removed for waste treatment. Typically, 80-90% of initial process acid is recovered in 1 pass through system with 70-90% removal of dissolved metals.

New Laboratory-Sized, Diffusion Dialysis Acid Purification System

Mech-Chem Associates, Inc., a chemical, mechanical, and environmental engineering corporation headquartered in Norfolk, Massachusetts, has announced the availability of a new laboratory-sized, diffusion dialysis acid purification system designed for the recovery and recycling of strong industrial acids.

This small acid purification lab unit is designed for testing on low volumes of acid solutions in order to provide users with an introduction to this unique technology, and to provide initial performance data. Evaluation of the test data may lead to further pilot scale testing, or the choice of full-scale installation at the facility. Once the industry's needs are determined, a system will be designed and produced to meet that need.

Acid Purification Systems designed by Mech-Chem Associates, Inc. are simple to operate, dependable, and economical. Our purification systems use an advanced membrane separation technology known as diffusion dialysis to separate, recover, and purify strong acids from spent acid solutions contaminated with dissolved metals. This technology is capable of recovering acids from concentrated baths that would have been discarded in the past.

The purified acid is returned to the process tank for continued use, while a concentrated metal-containing aqueous solution is removed for waste treatment. Typically, 80-90% of the initial process acid is recovered in one pass through the system with 70-90% removal of the dissolved metals from the process acid. The capacity of a full sized Acid Purification System starts at 15 gallons per day, with large systems available at 1,500 GPD and up.
