Just wanted to say, today my MIL had a big operation, lasted almost 5 hours. They finished at 9pm and let us see her briefly. An ileostomy due to bowel cancer. When we saw her at about 9:30pm they had just put a neck catheter in and she hated that, so she was upset as well as groggy and busted up from the operation, but she was awake enough to see we were all there. We weren't sure she would make it through this operation, she had an 8 hour operation earlier this year, then 21 days of radiation in august and now this, but she's tough and she's breathing! Hooray! She will be 80 years old soon and has 12 great grandchildren.

Goodness, she has really been through the wars, hasn't she! Good for her for fighting her way through it all. Don't know if I could do it.

Prayers to you and your family.

There is an ileostomy association on line if she needs advice and help. http://www.ostomy.evansville.net/ If she needs support. This site has a monthly email with ostomy advice.

God bless her, 80 years and still fighting. :cuddle;

MIL made it through operation, then her kidneys packed it in again, and it also sounds like her wounds from surgery opened. The ICU staff and she fought with badness from 1-4am. This morning they asked if we wanted the next level of treatment or to "let her go". Her husband and daughter said yes to some kind of heart affecting injection; later, she said, no I don't want "those chest things" (that they use to resuscitate you), just let me go if it goes any worse .. and when family members met in the morning in the waiting room we thought it was the endgame. She has her wits about her, remembers everything that is happening, remembers people who were in the surgical team.. and goodness knows, she has been through "enough", no need for heroic medicine if it will only buy her another month of this kind of misery (she's had a shocking time most of this year). And having had that kind of morning, she was sitting up eating ice cream this afternoon. fingers crossed. Tough bird that she is, and i say that in a most loving and admiring way. They are measuring her pee in the ml tonight, and hoping her kidneys come good again.
Your hugs and huggles have had their usual amazing effect. : 0 ) Thanks for ileostomy association KK. Isn't the web amazing, do you think there's a discussion group for every chronic ailment? This evening I think maybe she will have use for her ileostomy ... and an ileostomy website... after all!
