Hello. My name is Elaine. I am 25 and I have been on dialysis since I was 19. I was born with a birth defect in my ureters that caused reflux into my kidneys. They didn't find it until I was 9, and they then did a bi lateral re-implantation of my ureters. It corrected the problem but I already had so much scar tissue in my kidneys that I had extremely high blood pressure. It eventually led to me having ESRD. I started out on Hemo but it was really hard on my body(not that it's ever easy). I was only on it 6 months and I was hospitalized 3 of them. I ended up on PD and have been on it since. I am currently on the transplant list (as of June 2009). I have had some struggles with being on dialysis, both physical and emotional, but ultimately I think it has made me a stronger person. I am glad to have found this site though. It will be nice to have people to share with who actually understand what I deal with everyday! Because I, like everyone else here, HATE dialysis!

G'day Elaine & Welcome!!!
You've come to the right place! I think you'll fit in fine - you've had to deal with kidney failure for such a long time, and at a delicate stage of life (AND THAT SUCKS!!) - I am sure growing up with this, and dealing with it all when you're supposed to be learning and living life, and partying, has made you a stronger person for sure. However we all need support, so that's what we're here for!! Glad you've made it onto the transplant list, and hope you get that call soon!!!

Well, you're a better person than I am because kidney disease has NOT made me a stronger person. It just makes me whine more. :rofl; So, good for you, and welcome to IHD!
