Title: What has been going on
Post by: YLGuy on October 15, 2010, 02:36:55 PM
Labs this month: Kt/V was low again and hemoglobin was low too. They bumped my epogen and decided to crank the flow rate.  I was at 400 using a 21 R, the largest hemodialyzer.  They upped it to 450 and re-drew labs.  It brought me just above their min. standards.  My neph talked to me about maybe going from 3 1/2 hours to 3.75 hours.

Today I woke up with about an hour and a half left of my treatment.  The nurse usually has pushed my meds by then so I asked my tech if I had received my meds.  The nurse knows that she is not to push ANY meds without me verifying what she is pushing.  The tech did not know and the nurse was on break.  About 15 minutes before my treatment was over my nurse walked by and I asked about my meds.  She said she pushed them already.  I told her that upset me as she knows not to push any without me verifying them 1st.  She goes on to tell me that she is VERY busy and I have no right to be upset.  BUSY! That is when a mistake is going to be made.  No right?! This is my life we are talking about.  Well, she says, it is my license! Your license? I don't care about your license.  My life is more important than your license.  Unbelievable.

Such compassion    :sarcasm;      She needs to work at WalMart --- then she won't have to worry about her license  and more important-- you won't have to worry about your life!!    You have every right to be upset.

Boy, does she have her nerve. As if a license is more important than your life. Dont blame you for getting upset Marc, and sure hope it doesnt happen again.

What you should have said to her is:

"You're right, it's your license.  And if anything bad should happen to me, my family will see to it that your license is permanently revoked."

I always know what they are pushing, and I can taste it and I know what each med tastes like too so if I taste something that shouldn't be you know I will be right on it!

I came in Monday and the nurse could not have been nicer.  She had my meds already for me in a bag. She said I could check them and put them next to me and she would push them later.

I taste my meds too.  The nurses think it's kind of funny.  They've told me that they've never heard of people taking meds when they have a fistula, just those who have a line.  I can taste saline and heparin when it's used.  I was given my flu shot yesterday while holding my sites, and I could taste it.

Yup, and they all have different tastes.  I always thought epo tasted like licorice.  I had a graft in my upper arm.

My fistula is in the crook of my elbow.  It developed up into my upper arm
