Come blow your horn and strut your stuff. What awards have you won? Ever win a prize? Ever have anything published? Ever have a story written about you? Ever get special recognition for simply being absolutely fabulous? Describe your claim to fame!
-
I was in a small plane crash once that made the news.

I earned the Eagle Scout Award (and Vigil Honor) when I was a teenager.
8)

Yeah, Rerun, I see how that would have made the paper. My goodness...there's a life story for ya!
So Zach, what marvellous things did you do to earn such high honors? Were you just too cute for words?
-
I like this thread...
Rerun....yikes!!!
Zach..... nice!!!

I graduated Phi Beta Kappa and got a certificate and a really cool gold key that I can put on a chain and wear as a necklace.

My father and I are on a United States postage stamp. The stamp was issued May 1968.

I was part of the LA Times story here http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=2167.0
My photography won an iPad, theater tickets and was featured on some websites.

Let me think..
I was first published when I was 11, with about 10 other extremely talented kids. We all had our stories and poems put into a book that was sold to raise money for the writing program that we were a part of.
Did that again twice for the same type of book that raised money for the IWK Children's Hospital. Those books were full of stories and poems and drawings by kids in the hospital.
I was the first kid to go home on dialysis on PEI. I know there were a few after me, so I was a bit of a pioneer. *G*
I was on TV a few times, mostly having to do with Organ Donor Awareness
and, not one of my favorites, I was a character witness at the murder trial of John Raynor, the man who was convicted of killing my best friend, Chrystal Beairsto. It's kinda sad that they need character witnesses for the victim.
-
Riki, I read about Chrystal Beairsto. Whatever happened to her children? Sad story, she was so young.
-
Riki, I see that Raynor has finally abandoned his appeal.
-
Okarol, her kids were both adopted before she died. Chrystal was really happy about that. She gave up the oldest because she didn't think that she'd be able to give the girl a good home, and when she had the second, they just took him. The girl was adopted by a really nice family who had just begun to allow Chrystal to see her when she died, and the boy was adopted by his paternal grandmother. They lived in the same building, so she saw him every day. The boy is 10 now, and he knows he's adopted and he knows who his parents are. I haven't seen the girl since she was a year old, but from what I hear, the family takes good care of her.
Yes, Galvo. That was a huge relief. I was afraid we'd have to go through the trial again, and I know I didn't want to do it. I"m sure I'm not the only one. The whole family was called to the stand pretty much as character witnesses

omigod omigod! That rocks, YLGuy!

I have no horn to blow and no stuff to strut. Wow. This thread makes me feel very small; I've never received an award, won a prize, been published, had a story written about me or received special recognition for being absolutely fabulous ...
*sighs and wanders over to the Worthless Corner to sit on my lonesome whilst contemplating my wasted life*
;D

*chuckles* ... Here, I've squidged over so you can join me in the Worthless Corner (unless you think of something and then I'm squidging back across so you can't sit down).

:rofl; :beer1;

Usually, I try to stay out of the paper, as the first thing everyone reads where I grew up is either the police report or the obits. ;D Heck, I didn't even put engagement and wedding announcements in. I figured my friends already knew and I didn't care if anyone else did or not.
I was valedictorian in high school, but I find that a questionable accomplishment in a class of only 18 kids!
-
LOL@ The Worthless Corner. :rofl;
I think that deserves some recognition! :flower;
-
I agree! :thumbup; :yahoo; :2thumbsup; :cheer: :) :bandance;
-
YLGuy, quite right, too! That's just brilliant!
-
squidged
Funny word. ;D

Compared to you guys, my stories are so mundane. I have not had a postage stamp printed in my honor or been a witness at a murder trial. I was selected by Rotary to go on a Group Study Exchange to visit Japan. I have coached my state in school boy field hockey. The Queen once spoke to me (about 30 secs). Other than that, I'm just an average Jo Blo.
-
I have a degree in Anthroplogy form Cal State San Bernardino
3 teaching credentials- California Clear, teaching severely handicapped, resource specialist.
I have had a poem published in a an anthology by Poetry.com.
I have been married to the same man for almost twenty five years!

I am going to go and squidge in the corner with Poppy!!

YLGuy, I am so going to print a copy of that certificate. I love it!

I've been a guest on the David Letterman show
You can't just post that and then not tell us the story behind it! :o
I was in my high school production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". I played Hermia and won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress at our end-of-year awards ceremony. I don't know why David Letterman never had me on his show to talk about it...
-
When I was graduating from the sixth grade, they had an award ceremony. One by one the awards went out and I didn't win a thing, despite getting all As. Then they gave out the Mabel D. Gant memorial award, the highest given to anyone in the class. Yup, you guessed it, I won it! It looked kind of like a phi beta kappa key. I've had letters to the editor of the LA Times published, and once was interviewed as part of three people who started an anti-smoking group. When I was a child my pic was in the paper as I was supposed to be in a play with Edward Arnold, but I lost the part. Last, but most importantly, my friend and I run a renal support group.

I have had a poem published in a an anthology by Poetry.com.
I had one published by them too, but I saw it strictly as a scam to get you to pay $50 for the damn book. I never entered anything else to them again.

I make good chili.
:2thumbsup;
-
I enjoy a good chilli!

Every time I come across Poppylicious's post an image of her springs into my mind.
It's of Poppea, played by Ingrid Perrouche in Handel's opera "Agrippina". She's delicious, see? Click for video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubAuyZ03fgQ&NR=1)

Stoday, you must have met Queen Victoria, surely?

This made me chuckle lots. My bosom heaves better than hers. (Thought I'd share that.)
;D

I have to jump into the corner too. :'( But I make a lovely peach tart. Somebody please phone Oprah and let her know I will be available for and interview Monday 8am.
:cheer:
-
Everything I have done have been personal rewards in front of friends or at home. Ate 9 Whoppers in one sitting once and ate a 10 pound candy bar in less than a week. That kind of stuff doesn't get in papers you know. :rofl;
-
Here's my claim to fame:
-
Hmmm? Well, I have been Married, to the same Man, for over Forty Years. Does that Count? Move Over, Poppy, Your going to need a Bigger Couch.

I admit to shedding a tear or two when re-reading these comments.
On the bright side, we have many new members, and maybe some of them will come along and tell us about their claim to fame!

Loving all these accomplishments!
I haven't really won many awards but I graduated from college with honors. All while living away from home in a dorm room and getting dialysis 3 times per week. I have a bachelors in Elementary Education and Fine Arts.
I adopted two children from foster care as a single mom.
Last football season I was in a huge football pool and not only did I win the whole thing, but I won first place in the college picks as well. I got two wall plaques and a HUGE trophy. Like bigger than any of the trophies I got in little league softball. 😂😂😂
-
Hello all!
Like Beth, I graduated from college with honors. Summa Cum Laude if you want to get pedantic about it. ;D The only thing it got me was the chance to be one of the first people to walk across the stage.
Also like Beth, I won my office college basketball pool a couple of years ago. I got a huge trophy LOL. When I quit my job last summer, I left it for the person who came in second who was also in my department.
Way back in high school, I volunteered weekly at our local library in the reference department and won volunteer of the year for the county.

I ate chicken and pizza with singer Phil Perry and his wife and a few of their friends in Las Vegas a few years ago.
