Title: introducing myself
Post by: radice_j@yahoo.com on October 03, 2010, 04:57:02 PM
My name is John, 48 years old, I've always worked hard & played hard.
I have two great children Jessie Marie 23 & John 18.
I am newly divorced & in the end stages of spliting up the funds & selling the house. I guess its alot to go through being on D. A couple months into D I would get a bad alergic reaction like sweats & my nervous system over reacting. I realy wanted to stop D if this what my life was going to be,so after months of pleading my feelings with the doctor a nurse saw my physical reaction and changed the filter on the machine, what a difference. I still get very tired but I guess its normal.
I hope this information helps somebody because changing the filter worked.
NYU university denied me a chance of getting on the transplant list because my living arrangements are up in the ai . So I am in the process of other hospitals. I have always been a strong and kind person, I wonder if I will ever have a relationship again. On off D days I feel like going out and mingling but I feel diffrent about my self. I guss this is a normal feeling. If anyone has ideas where to meet people like us with kidney faliure let me know. I'm not complaining just trying my best to live life to its FULLEST!  Thank You for listening  John
                                  P.S. STAY STRONG

Boy, that's a lot to go through all at the same time.  I'm surprised that NYU wouldn't at least let you start the evaluation process.  Good for you for inquiring at other hospitals.

I'm glad you've joined us...thank you for telling us about yourself.

Hi, John, and welcome to the group.  I guess the best place to meet other kidney patients is at a support group.  If there's not one near you, start one!  I'll be happy to help.  Glad you joined.

Yes, filters and/or the reuse of filters can cause different reactions to people on dialysis.

Welcome to our community!

:welcomesign;  to IHD. Good that the filter change was caught. See the things you learn here? Way too much to ever put into a book. You are young yet, so hang in there. You will get things squared away eventually, I feel sure.

John, so glad that filter change helped and thank you for sharing that as something that may help others.  I hope you get settled soon, spend lots of great time with your children, and are able to get ready for a transplant.  Welcome!

Welcome John.  I'm so glad you found us.  I'm 49 and been on dialysis for 5 years now following a 17 year transplant.  I too am divorced.  Yeah, it can be a bitch.  I hope you hang in there.  Sounds like you are doing better.

I'm looking foreward to your posts.

Hi John! Sounds like you have your hands full on top of going through D! I, too, went through a divorce while being on D, because my husband couldn't stand by me and watch me being sick and needing help. Cruel slap in the face! Please know that we are here, and can be of great help and support...that's what I've found being relatively new to the site! Looking forward to seeing your posts and questions :welcomesign;

I'm very interested in your experience with the filter. I get night sweats after dialysis but thought it went with the territory and nothing could be done. Please tell us more about what happened and the solution.
...and welcome!

Welcome to our community, John!  So glad that you found this wonderful place for information, support, encouragement, and even fun.  So sorry that you have had to deal with the dastardly D's - divorce and dialysis!  But you sound like a survivor to me.  And your IHD family is here to go through it all with you  :grouphug;  What you need to do is keep reading and keep posting, letting us know how you are doing.
