My transplant has been postponed. My sister and I checked into Stanford yesterday at 1pm. They did the last blood tests, and they found HCG in my blood.This is a hormone marker for pregnancy. I thought they were joking since I am 9 years post menopausal and my husband is "fixed". They did three blood tests and they all came up I was pregnate. Surgery was cancelled at 10pm and my sister was released this morning. They conducted a sonogram today which showed everything was fine plus no masses and I was NOT pregnate.However now they are sending me to an endocronologists who specials in HCG hormone to see why I have it in my system. I have low levels and the doctors say it may be normal for me. I am back home now and I'm over my initial disapointment. Most importantly,I don't have Cancer! I'll update when I know more.

Wow, every time I think I've heard it all - there's a new obstacle to a transplant. So happy to hear you don't have cancer (or are pregnant!) I am sorry about the delay and disappointment. Let's hope they figure out it's nothing and you can get scheduled again soon.
I just read this: "False positive tests may occur when certain hormones are increased, such as after menopause or when taking hormone supplements." Good luck. :cuddle;

thats got to be a tough one!! Im so sorry, but so glad it's not cancer or pregnant..That would have been hard to explain ??? Hope it all gets started soon..

Oh, for heaven's sake. One of my friends had a similar issue before minor surgery - they insisted she must be pregnant. Her response was "My girlfriend doesn't have the equipment to make that possible!"
-
I've heard some males come up positive on those pregnancy tests.
I'm very frustrated for you Sunny!

Sunny so sorry to hear this.

IHD could write a book about "everything that could and will go wrong before a transplant". I think this one wins the prize! I am so sorry, Sunny. You get yourself ready emotionally only to have it cancelled. I am glad there is no cancer----and no baby. Have they given you any time frame for the transplant? I'll be waiting for some good news. Hope you are doing ok. :cuddle;

The endocronologist ran some tests and determined that whatever the reason for my HCG levels, it should not hold up transplant surgery and my tansplant team says it will not effect my new kidney.I think they just wanted to make sure I didn't have some weird masses or cancer or srtange pregnancy issues.Surgery is back on for October 6th, next Wednesday. Wish me well.Now I can get excited again.

Ya know, NOTHING is easy! But if this is the biggest obstacle you'll have to overcome, then you're laughin'! :rofl;
-
:clap; Oh boy!! Good it's coming up soon!

I do hope, you feel much better after the transplant
and I hope, everything goes well for you both!
Best wishes and good luck from Kristina.

Sunny, I can stop holding my breath! I have been so worried. Oct 6th is in a couple of days and you can start your journey.
Keeping calm until them is going to be the hardest part. Do you have some things packed? You won't need much. Don't forget an outfit to come home in - something loose and comfy. My pain was never bad. Take the pain meds and use the morphine button! The nurse said I used mine about 1/4 of the average use, but I was never in pain. If you hurt, don't hesitate to tell the nurses. It is hard to heal when you are in pain.
I am so excited for you. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers all day the 6th. I will be anxious to hear when it is over. Sending you love -- :cuddle; :cuddle;
